hey its nice to meet everyone, im new to the site.

so im from Colorado, so im not an immigrant or looking to get a visa, however my girlfriend is from Venezuela and in the process of moving to Peru (i hope to marry her one day in the future when she finishes school). over the past couple months we have been communicating through IM via whatsapp, voice message, and video clips, i really love this girl...the only thing is that she speaks spanish, and i speak english, my spanish is bad but im still learning. also, we havent personally met yet, but i know that she is a real person haha.

we message each other everyday but i have to rely on a translator when i talk to her for fear of her not understanding me. i asked her if she would be comfortable doing live video calls and she said yes! im super nervous about this because again my spanish is bad and im still learning and she is super beautiful. my question is how can we video chat and communicate effectively with each other while speaking different languages? any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Both of you need to start Duolingo right NOW.  It's a free app.  Once you get the basics, start reading in the other's language.  Then take a course either online (they have skype teachers) or at a nearby language school.  Translator apps can patchwork your communication together for now, but you need to learn the other's language.

Download Skype for your PC. They have a translation chat thing, where you can type in your own language and it will translate for one another (you can be video calling at the same time). So you can try your Spanish and if your struggling just type in what your saying and it will translate it for her. Also it is a good way to pick up some words and phrases as you get to see the translation right beside the original.

I've only played around with it whilst my fiancé was checking out my German, so haven't used it a lot. But from what we seen early on its accurate.

This should help

I second the Skype recommendation .. using a PC.  You can use video .. and type at the same time.  I used it many times.

just remember to avoid slang, intent and tone do not come across in type and the translator is not 100% accurate ...
