NVC: Submit Originals or Copies

Hi Guys,

 

I have a quick question.  When we submit the police clearance certificate and Birth certificate, do we have to submit originals to NVC or just copies?

 

Do the copies need to be certified? Meaning notarized? If yes, can they be notarized in the country of the beneficiary?

Per travel.state.gov website, 

• Send a photocopy of all required civil documents to NVC. (see submission instructions in Step 6).
• Bring the original documents (or certified copies) plus a photocopy to your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

So i believe photocopies will be fine for PCC and BC.

Thanks, but I have read on the forum that folks are submitting originals, so there is mixed info out there, and I just wanted to confirm what is the right thing to do.

If you have extra copies of originals, then you can submit it. I think photocopies are fine to NVC and bring the originals to Interview.

i think depends on the country as NVC wanted original / i had sent an original with application but someplace it was lost

what does your checklist say

it is very clear what NVC needs from you

Great! do we receive this once NVC receives the case from USCIS?

Yes, NVC will send you a welcome packet and it includes in that after they received it from USCIS

Thanks! I will wait for NVC Checklist and then confirm if I would have send the originals or Copies.

yes, the checklist will point out

1. need to send this to NVC or

2. this is needed and bring to interview or

3. this is in packet and not needed 

remember when you get the new case number from NVC (your embassy initials and xxxxxxx) ,  print the case number, both names and both DOB's of each and every page in the upper right hand corner or you face the possibility of a paper getting lost in the shuffle
