If your case is straightforward, you can do this process yourself. The Guides section at the top of this page is extremely helpful and will answer almost all of your questions. The majority of the people on VJ do this whole journey themselves without the help of an attorney. My husband and I did this ourselves, never even talked with an attorney. Best wishes with whatever you decide. :)

alots of people dont used a lawyer and they are doing just fine without one. u just need to read read and read from this visa journey forum, u can get all hyelp u need from here, just read all the guides amd visa faq and the topics u find here and if u have any questions or if u need help just ask, there are here alots of pleople willing to help. hw hired a lawyer because i had a overstayed previous visa and we might have problems because of that. if u are thinking of hiring a lawyer i would suggest to dont hire one online, u can find alots of immigation lawyers in area u live, is better like that cuz u can meet and talk and help u more. is your choice, u can get one if u are so scared u will not do things right but sometimes a lawyer can mess things out, nobody is perfect, we all do mestakes. if u need any help dont hesitate and ask. good luck!!

I'd say it is a waste. You can do it all yourself.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

NOT worth it unless there is something unusal and difficult in your case i.e. overstay on a previous visa or if you are incredibly disorganized and cannot tackle the paperwork yourself.

I myself did not hire one, they are extreamly expencive. The money you can save for your wedding later on,seriously.

I used the VJ guide to help me out with the I129F pack, without the guides I think I would of been lost. It is great stuff:

If you have any other questions about the Visa you are filing then ask us here online,we will all try to help as best as we can.

All the best.

Definitely read the K-1 guide here on VJ and then you can decide if doing the process yourself is possible. An attorney is going to charge you a considerable amount of money you know! Good luck

The decision to do it yourself or use an attorney can be difficult. You should weigh all the factors and make the decision with full knowledge of what it will take. The cost of an attorney can provide piece of mind, if the attorney is well experienced and up to date on the newest changes to immigration regulations. I could not recommend an online attorney but you can ask members for names and phone numbers of immigration attorney's they have used. Remember, your attorney does not need to be close to you, only very knowledgeable.

The guides on VJ are quite helpful, so you can possibly manage everything yourself. Understand, that using an attorney will not mean you have nothing to do in preparation. But, generally, you can be assured that the forms are prepared properly.

This process is confusing and frustrating. Take time to read the guides and get an understanding of the forms and the process. If you are still concerned that you can't manage it, then consider using an attorney.

seasuirl,

The big questions are:

- Is your case straightforward?

- Are you sure?

Have a consultation with an experienced immigration attorney who does family-based immigration to review the facts of your situation, then make an informed decision. And remember always that the USCIS can, and does on ocassion, turn what should be a straightforward case into a maze.

Yodrak

If your case is straightforward, you can do this process yourself. ....

We didn't use a lawyer and though I did have to read up a lot before filing all the papers it was worth the money saved not using a lawyer. The process is already expensive enough :) This forum will help you greatly. I wish I would have found it before we started our process. Good luck.

Hi

We did use one but are now regretting it. It's not that they have done anything wrong, just that for the tiny amount of work they did, it seems we paid a lot of $ for very little work (and nothing we couldn't have done ourselves). Like you, we were worried about messing up but there are so may helpful guides on here that had we found this site sooner I doubt we would have bothered.

The only advantage I can see is that part of the fee covers the appeal if we are denied, like any insurance, we hope we don't need to use it. Apart from this... waste of time and money in my opinion.

Obviously, only you can decide what is best for you.... good luck and I hope it all works out for you. :-)
