Spanish to English document translation really necessary?

Its I-751 time for us and I have documents to send in our proof packet that are in Spanish. My Husband's and our child's birth certificate as well as our marriage certificate are all in Spanish. I noticed the USCIS page said they want translated documents although documents in Spanish were an exemption when we applied for the CR-1.  Does anyone know if getting these documents translated into English is really necessary? Not guesses but anyone who actually sent the Spanish copies and didnt get an RFI? Thanks ahead of time!!

Spanish documents are ok to bring for an interview at the local embassy but when mailing, my wife translated everything from Spanish.  We didn't try sending Spanish so that I can't say.

If it doesn't specifically exempt Spanish language documents from the requirement for translation, you should include translations.

Yes they must be translated.

It was an exception because the official language where you filed your CR-1 is in Spanish. Likewise we didn't have to translate my husband's birth cert in Spanish or singleness certification when we went to the embassy in Nicaragua. HOWEVER when filing for green card (AOS), which you didn't have to do, they request translations for any documents that are not in English.  Also, this is taken straight from the I-751 instructions:

 

Translations. If you submit a document with information in a foreign language, you must also submit a full English

translation. The translator must sign a certification that the English language translation is complete and accurate, and that

he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English

 

If you and/or your husband are fluent you can translate the docs yourself. That's what we did. Saved us time and money. Good luck to you! We are just a few months behind as we are gearing up for the ROC as well!

Yes, this is an important fact, which I forgot to include! You don't need to pay to have someone translate them... anyone who is fluent in both languages can provide the translation, and write the declaration (that the translation is full and complete, and that the person is competent to make the translation.)
