So give him a few weeks’ break from school in the middle. Depending on the state he may not start exactly in December anyway. We moved in Dec & my daughter did not begin (on school advice) until the school’s second semester began in mid January. 

In my opinion you should be focusing on how best to maximize his US schooling, given that he’ll be half way or more through high school already and that you intend for him to graduate in the US.
