Appointment is invalid until consulate generates appointment letter

Called the consulate today to see if they have my case in the system, I've already scheduled an interview and wanted to make sure everything was ok.

The rep today was very helpful, but he told me something that got me a bit nervous.

He said my current interview appointment is invalid until they generate the packet aka appointment letter.

He said they'll leave it for now and I should check back every few days, it can take a few days to a few weeks to get my case fully loaded.

 

Also I'll have to go to Juarez to get the letter printed since medical and biometrics are in Mexico City which really stinks, AND I can't even plan that until they actually generate the letter.

I'm confused.  Did you schedule your interview ahead of time?    I think most people just wait until the appointment letter comes before they schedule anything.  Our physician wouldn't accept an appointment without having the letter and others have mentioned the same. I didn't know you could schedule anything prior to that...only reschedule once you have the letter. 

 

I'm also not sure why you have to go somewhere to get the letter printed...we got ours as a pdf via email...are you getting other communications via email now?  I'm not sure if the medical and biometrics must take place in a particular city.  Just from an approved doctor in the country.  That may be different in Mexico, as in Honduras, there are only two cities with doctors that can perform the exam.  But I don't remember that the embassy was city-specific as to which city the exam had to be performed in...we did it in my spouse's city, not in the city where the Embassy is.  There is only one city in Honduras to go for an interview, so that may have taken the guesswork out though.

Yes, I have an expedited case, and from reading through the posts here, knew the website I had to sign up on to schedule the interview. I get to schedule my own through the embassy because of the expedite, Mexico has around a 3 month wait and I was able to grab an interview date from a cancellation.

 

If the letter is generated before the interview date then I should be ok.

 

Juarez is the only place that processes the immigrant visas, everyone has to go through there. If you live in Mexico City you're able to do medical and biometrics there, otherwise its in Juarez, this is in the official instructions from the website.

 

I wish they would send it by email, but Juarez only sends it by snail mail, surprising being how many people they have going through there. Some people say they never receive the letter. NVC did everything by email. The only other way to get it is having it printed out at the consulate.

Wow, that is a pain.  I didn't realize that Mexico City couldn't do everything.  The expedited process isn't something I've seen much of, so I hope someone can tell you better than I can, hopefully good news!

I'm just hoping they get it into the system very soon, having to take a trip just for the letter is going to be a pain and expensive, but losing the date would probably be worse cause it can easily be months to get one again.

Yes that is terrible it works that way.  It seems like they are living in 1970 still.

Flew to Juarez and got the letter.

This letter cost me $300 to get, the rest better be smooth
