Hi,

I'm the beneficiary for a CR1 application. I was born in Senegal and my interview will take place in Senegal. It's a french speaker country.  Do I need to translate my birth certificate in English?

you need to take both the French and English translation

some assume once you get it translated that is all you need but you need both

Can I do the translation by myself?

I thought no if the interview take place in the place of birth. I had doubt.

It's been my experience that if ever there is doubt at any step in this process, err on the side of caution. If you bring both, worst that can happen is they do not ask for it. But if you only bring the French version and they ask for the English translation, you will be sucked into the Administrative Processing black hole.

Yes, please carry your original BC, and English translation of the same along with a copy of it. (That's what they say for my Consulate in Mumbai, India)
