Hotel charges guests by the pound (kilo actually)

BERLIN (Reuters) - A hotel in northern Germany has started charging its guests by the kilo for an overnight stay.

In the town of Norden, close to the Dutch border, guests now have to step onto the scales before moving into their rooms and fork out half a euro ($0.61) per kilogram (2.2 lbs).

"I had many guests who were really huge and I told them to slim down," said Juergen Heckrodt, owner of the three-star establishment. "When they came back the year after and had lost a lot of weight they asked me what are you gonna do for me now?"

Heckrodt said he hoped his initiative would inspire Germans to become leaner and healthier.

"Healthy guests live longer and can come back more often."

Larger customers may be reassured that the hotel turns no one away who refuses to step on the scales and charges no guest more than 39 euros, the normal single room price.

Well, that's one place to stay away from! (as if it's a hotel-keeper's place to tell anyone they need to lose weight!) Most if not all fat people are extremely aware of their size... it's not like we're blind!

Not sure about hotels, but airlines should definitely start charging passengers

by the pound -- after all, those extra pounds translate to extra gallons of fuel.

I second that ... Or maybe airlines should change their policy in luggage allowance from max. 50 lbs per person (if I'm not mistaken ?? ) to max. 300 lbs total (person + luggage). No offence anyone, just joking !!!

Shhhh... remember the thread about petty charges? They might take you up on it only I doubt they'd be so generous as to allow 300 pounds... more like 150 including your luggage.

And then to make extra profit they'd make it illegal to go to the bathroom before you checked in.
