One man was naturalized in 1999, the other man in 2004...two things I don't understand/am curious about:

 

1)  How did this come to light so many years later, and

2)  Considering the seriousness of the conviction/charge how was this not revealed during the N400 background check and the application not denied based on misrepresentation of facts then?

 

I could understand if the crimes happened in another country and that info wasn't readily shared or obtainable by the FBI during the background check, but from the article it seems they were committed in Texas?

The second one wasn't found guilty until 2015. So it's possible that it actually wasn't on his record at the time, that the victim hadn't reported the crime at that time. It makes me wonder how many other ones have been missed and how many other old naturalizations will be reviewed. Or was it just that someone whispered in the right person's ear to have these individuals investigated?
