This has been standard practice in Syria and Iraq when the cities of Raqqa, Mosul, and Dier Ezzor fell. The standard practice in Raqqa and Mosul is to try and kill the enemy combatants instead of taking prisoners, especially Europeans. What is funny is that the European countries have been actively supporting killing European combatants instead of take them captive.

Yeah, the Netherlands is pro killing Dutch ISIS fighters. They don't want them to come back for obvious reasons. Some of them are trying to go back, saying they deserted but who knows if that's the truth?

 

Honestly this is the first time I read a detailed article. It's sickening, I know combat is different, but how on Earth can they know who is an IS member and who isn't. Also, this men can never live a normal life after the war. How do you go back being a university teacher ( example) after killing so many people and sleeping next to corps and being surrounded by death and destruction.

What's sad is that the majority of people doing the fighting are Shiite fighters forming what's called PMU's(Popular Mobilization Unit) basically a militia fighting on behalf of Baghdad but getting official orders from Iran. Yes, I know it's very complex foreign policy wise but I love it. These PMU's will just move from country to country to fight on behalf of Iran and the Shiite Crescent. So this will be their job honestly. 

 

I listen to a couple foreign policy non-partisan podcasts and they have put this out months ago about what the Europeans are doing.

What is worrying is that after IS is defeated all the different groups have to get along to prevent another war, I don't think that will happen. It is complex foreign policy as you say. normally I try not to read to much about it, it all seems so senseless.
