On Our approval letter it says 'we have sent the petition to the department of state'. But it's still not received at nvc. How long does it take? Case was approved on 31st Jan but online status still says case received. My son received the approval letter by mail.

We just received our NOA2 dated 07 February 2018. NOA1 Date was 11 July 2017. The  USCIS website has not yet updated to show this, it still shows case received.

Good luck to everyone still waiting

until the actual USCIS website is updated with the words "sent to department of state" you will not be at NVC, and about 5 days after the update NVC might have it, it will take about 3-4 weeks from the date the USCIS site was update with the words "sent to department of state" before you will get a case #

Unfortunately nobody can tell you when NVC will receive your case or assign a number. You just have to keep calling them until they give you that information.

My case was received by NVC a week after my i130 approval but it didn't show up in their system for 3 weeks. It's common for people to call NVC over and over with no answer and then all of a sudden get a case number. I think there are different variables like which country you're from. The process can vary widely for those who have CEAC, email or paper. It can depend on how busy they are. All a person can do is keep calling.
