Divorce after 10 year green card

Well, he decided being committed to one person was too hard and that he needed to sew his wild oats and branch out. All within a few months of receiving his 10 year green card. Is there anything I need to let Immigration know? I don't even know if he informed them that he moved. The divorce paperwork is filed and waiting on my final decree, which shouldn't take long since there are no children or property from the marriage. How do I stop being financially responsible for him?

move him from the joint bank account and other accounts.  No need to report to USCIS for this.

But be sure to keep all paperwork from this failed marriage in case  you need them in future. 

 H1b ---> EB-1A (I-140) ---> I-485 AOS(Green Card) ---> 5 years --->  US Citizenship N400 application

  • Day 0:  11/16/2017, e-filing N400
  • Day 306:  9/18/2018,  interview day--passed and in line for oath.
  • Day 332: 10/15/2018, Oath Day

unless one of those things happen, you are on the hook as far as the I864 is concerned

That has already been done and he has moved out. I removed his name from my car, credit cards, etc. We have a couple of joint things that we are each paying half on.

unfortunately you are not off the hook - you will still be responsible for him financially until :

 

- he becomes a US Citizen ( in 3-5 years or whenever after that) OR

- he permanently leaves the US and abandons his permanent resident status OR

- he continuously works for 10 years ...

  • 07/30/2007 After no touches and no other signs we just got an email with the APPROVAL of I130....Thank God !....now what ?
