Hi.  I would like to introduce myself and my Fiance Hue.  We have been "together" for about 2 years now.  I have traveled to Vietnam 4 times to visit with the love of my life.

I have contacted a K1 lawyer, and will probably go about it that way, unless someone has some suggestions.

As far as I know I meet all the conditions to sponsor Hue for a k1 visa, except I have a criminal record.  The long story short, almost 20 years ago, I committed an armed robbery, but made a plea deal for Assault w/a deadly weapon, commercial burglary, and false imprisonment.  If you review the criminal convictions that can bar you from sponsoring for k1 visa, you'll see false imprisonment listed.  I have spoken with an attorney, and he said we will have to file a waiver, to see if we can get them to look at the arrest/conviction specifically to see that my arrest/conviction did not involve any kind of human trafficking or domestic violence.  Rather, I plead to (admitted to) moving a person at gunpoint.

I hope this works, and I can successfully get the love of my life here in the United States with me.  Please wish me luck, and if anyone has any hints or tips, I'd greatly appreciate reading them.

Hey Brian, good luck with your process.  Hopefully your lawyer can help you through the process.  My only advice is to have all the documents relating to the offense.  Since it was so long ago, they will probably be understanding if you have nothing else on your record since.  Best of luck!

Thank you Hoa Ngyuen.  I've been gathering all the documents.  While I have old copies of everything, I believe I read that I need "certified" copies, so I'm busy acquiring those.  I have nothing on my record since then.
