And what if it turns out to be the latter?

Then hopefully they catch the purpetrator(s) and justice is served. Still doesn't excuse the idiocy of building a massive wall. Whatever it turns out to be it is definitely sad for our CBP officers killed and injured, but I'm suspicious of Dear Leader speaking before all the facts are in, and I'm also not down with blaming anyone but the actual assailants if that is what actually happened.

Interesting, were you suspicisious when the previous (to use your words) “Dear Leader” commented on Cambridge, Sanford or Furgeson before knowing all the facts?  Or maybe suspicious of all the untruths he uttered relative to the ACA?  I realize many people believe we shouldn’t protect the border, but I for one am not among them.  If this means a wall, or increased manpower, or whatever, I am fine with it.

Wondering how this thread will turn when it is determined that a fall into a ravine and not a pack of stone wielding illegal immigrants turns out to be the cause of death and injury? Perhaps the build a wall crowd can claim the material for the wall will eliminate ravines and is therefore still needed?

Walking in the dark and falling?

It seems the FBI may disagree with you on your theories.

Should we just cover the comments the MDL will be making regarding the fact that it still would have been murder even if the perp. wasn't illegal.

here's an actual update (not from december). the local sheriff thinks a semi hit the men. the fbi is still investigating and looking for info. the surviving agent does not remember what happened.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/border-patrol-agent-rogelio-martinezs-autopsy-leaves-key-question-unanswered-el-paso/

A barbiturate called Butalbital - often found in drugs combined with aspirin, codeine or caffeine - was in Martinez's system, Diaz-Cavalliery found. "Signs noted following its administration include drowsiness, sedation and ataxia," she wrote. Ataxia is an inability to coordinate movements.

Martinez's partner, who had suffered similar injuries, radioed for help while the two were investigating a report of activity on Nov. 18 outside of Van Horn, about 110 miles southeast of El Paso and about 30 miles from the border with Mexico. Martinez died at a hospital a few hours later. His partner has recovered, but investigators say he doesn't remember what happened.

Some elected officials initially called the incident an attack, and FBI officials said they were investigating it as a potential assault. But Culberson County Sheriff Oscar Carrillo, one of the first responders at the scene, has said he thinks a semitrailer may have hit Martinez and his partner accidentally.

The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information solving the case. Texas is offering a $20,000 reward for similar information.

The FBI widened its search for information on Martinez' death to several states, even putting up billboards asking for help in Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, reports CBS El Paso affiliate KDBC-TV

The officer shouldn't have been taking a prescription medicine containing Butalbital.

It is usually given for headaches, but it isn't recommended frequently anymore. Especially for someone on a job like that. It can impair your judgement, make you confused and/or drowsy etc...

That being said, it has a reasonably long half-life so he could have taken it even 2-3 days earlier and he may still have turned up positive.

The last thing we need is CBP agents with impaired judgment.  Have met more than enough of those, sadly.
