I hope the title is not confusing

First, a big thank you to all the helpful folks here at VJ

my Question is I was in a rocky relationship (never married) when I met my now foreign gf.

When I met my foreign gf in person we were just friends at the time as I was living with my ex gf  still. My previous relationship ended months after visiting my foreign gf but still had to live with my ex for financial reasons. My foreign gf and I remained friends and once I moved out and got my own place, my foreign gf and I started developing our relationship.

Will this raise a red flag when I submit the petition, since it will show that my older residence belonged to my ex gf?

I am the American citizen by the way. Never been married nor engaged in my life.

Thank you for your time.

Where you lived, who you lived with and why have nothing to do with the process at all. They do not have you list your girlfriend history or living situation with ex girlfriends with dates on any K-1 application that I am aware of. They are concerned with your fiance (the beneficiary) and your relationship with her. You will need proof that you have met in person and proof that you have a bonafide relationship.

Thank you for answering. I just thought they would think it’s weird and be a red flag  that I met while I was still in a relationship with my ex.

Both women are aware of each other too.

Yea it really does not matter at all as that will never even come up. I was still married and living with my ex-wife when I met my current wife in the Philippines. I am filing for a CR-1 for my wife and I still live with my ex. Of course I will move out before my wife gets here but for now it is best for me, my ex, and our son that we stay in the same house. As I said there is no where in the process where you are asked to provide information regarding your questions so you are fine. Of course rule number one during immigration is answer all questions truthfully but you never offer information that they do not ask for.

Good luck to you!

I doubt this will even be an issue unless someone mentions it at an interview or something.  I was still seeing my Swedish ex (he was in the country via his parents) when I met my husband.  Never a question.

Thanks for responding. Why would it be an issue if it were mentioned? (Let’s say they ask about it in the interview)

It would be more weird that your fiancee brought it up, rather than anything.

Why would they ask?  Are you planning on writing in your "how we met" paragraph that you were living with an ex girlfriend and then met your now fiancee?  I suggest not.   I was still living with my ex-boyfriend when I met my husband.  We didn't start dating until after my ex and I had separated.  It was never asked about it and I didn't mention at any time it because it wasn't relevant to proving my relationship with my husband.

Thanks for responding. Yes, that’s exactly what I meant. When it comes time to write the “how we met” paragraph.

Also when I write my previous addresses, it will be my ex gf’s house since that is where I was living. Just wondering if they will ask “who was living with him at this previous address?”

You don't need a paragraph for the how you met.  Just say how you met (online at whatever site, at a bar, through friends) and when and where you first met in person (June 2016 in Paris) for example.  Do not volunteer more information than necessary.

I highly doubt the question will even come up and if it does, your fiancee will answer honestly and it will be fine.

In the petition firm they ask only for previous marriages, if any you need to provide divorce papers etc. They are not concerned about our previous gf/bf and I wouldn’t bring that topic bcs it doesn’t matter :) And in how you met section I would write the truth that concerns both of you. We had maybe 5 sentences. Some people write 10 pages but I think it’s way too extreme ;)

That's a paragraph not a book :) How you met has nothing to do with your ex or where you were living. Unless of course you ex introduced you.

I really don't think it would come up for any reason. The only one being interviewed is your fiance not you.

This is most important. Like I said earlier. Answer all questions truthfully but never offer information that was not asked for.

All questions aside there is nothing about the immigration process that say you are not allowed to meet someone new while you had a previous relationship. Don't worry about this issue at all.
