Case number after receiving NOA2

Hello 

 

After receiving our NOA2 11/11/17. I  read on my USCIS case online they have forwarded  the paperwork to the NVC on the 14th NOV. How long have people waited to get case number after receiving NOA2? . I was going to call next week to ask them if my case number was available.

I called about 20 days after NOA2 date and got it around that time. 

I heard the time increased though... people telling their wait was several weeks. 
So just try and keep the chin up if it doesn't work out at call #1 already!

I was able to get it the evening of the 4th day after they received it by calling them, if you wait for them to do it, it can take up to a month.

When we received our NOA2 it took 30 days for NVC to even receive it from USCIS (from day 20 since NOA2 we called NVC almost everyday) and we were assigned a case number the same day they received. So in my experience it's the shipping between USCIS and NVC that takes time, once the case is at NVC it goes quickly.

 

So calling doesn't always help, it can still take a month or more.

The timeline on this varies widely.  Start calling them as soon as you wish and be prepared from frustration and happy if it works out better than that.

It helps when you know they have your case already, USCIS notified me when they mailed it, its a normal notification, I got text messages and an email.

Nebraska is within a week

Texas is taking around a month

Mine left the NVC on a Monday and it was received by NVC Thursday that week. On that day (Thursday) they confirmed it had been touched by the mail room but no case number yet. Al, they could say was "it's here". I called regularly after that and got my case number on day 14 after they confirmed it was received. 

 

The process for assigning case numbers for K-1 visas and for CR-1 visas is different so make sure when you look at time scales you are looking at people who went through the NVC as a CR-1, not a K-1. K-1s are assigned case numbers within a day or two of arriving at the NVC as the embassy does the rest of the work so the NVC gets it off their hands very quickly. CR-1s are processed by the NVC so they need to set up a whole work file for it and assign it to a processing team. Hence it takes longer to get the case number for CR-1s.

Has been that way for a while. However Texas is approving I-130s faster than Nebraska. The OP on the thread sent hers before you, for example, but hers went to Nebraska and yours to Texas. Yours was approved about 6 weeks before hers. Mine was at Nebraska last year and it was approved on a Thursday and sent to the NVC the following Monday. People at Texas were waiting a month after approval to be sent to the NVC but I waited longer for my Nebraska approval than the Texas people waited for theirs. It balances out in the end.

Yeah we never recieved any of that, neither did anyone else in our December filers group. I guess they stopped doing that or it was temporarily down or something. We did receive a letter from NVC about 2 months after our case had been assigned a case number, but that was all. No text/email from USCIS about it being shipped off to NVC. Took NVC 30 days to even receive it, and assigned a case number on that same day.

 

I applied for a K-1 btw, doesn't seem to be the same at all
