He settled the Paula Jones case - But that was "indecent exposure" and "propositioning".

So is there a rape case settled or not?

Just want our facts straight. Seems reasonable.

 "indecent exposure" and "propositioning"

Will do for me.

Good to hear  "indecent exposure" and "propositioning" is no biggie.

When did I say that? Only you are.

It's not rape. That doesn't mean it's not a significant charge.

You aren't going to win this. I asked a very specific question. You pivoted because you know the answer but don't want to concede the point. I know you're more intelligent than that. You are just being difficult because you don't want to admit something. It's very transparent.

A very significant charge. Surely that should be the focus.

That's fine. Still not rape.

JG said he settled rape cases (I think he even said it was plural).

Still waiting for those from him or anyone else.

Ok it wasnt actual rape, it was some form of sexual misconduct. You win

Thanks :)

I agree that he should have resigned over the Lewinsky business (mostly everything else brought up through that, as well as his obstruction of justice/lying). As much as I liked him and his agenda as President, I think he significantly hurt the reputation of the office. At the end of the day I think the President's number 1 job is to be a representative of our country and our core ideals. He failed in that regard.

I think it would be interesting if he were President now and the same information had come out. I wonder if the outcome would be different in 2017. I'd hope we are less tolerant of those behaviors, but I'm not sure.

I'm surprised that you think so, though I agree with you.

I remember the first time it came out a supreme court justice had tried weed. Without looking I think it was Bork. It was a major scandal. Now its not even an issue

I think now if you can survive the 72 hour news cycle you are good to go

Oh I was talking about tolerance around sexual misconduct specifically, not "misconduct" in general. Things like weed/drug "experimentation" yes we have definitely become more tolerant with.

Do you think we are more tolerant around sexual misconduct now vs the 90's, in politics specifically? We certainly have more cases/accusations of it in recent years. We shouldn't kid ourselves and think that it wasn't happening with any less frequency back then, but it wasn't being brought up as much. Now that it is being brought up more though - What are we really doing with the information? Usually not much.

Yes I do. I remember when allegations of an affair brought a quick end to Gary Hart's almost sure thing presidential candidacy

Agreed.

It seems like in the 80's a single accusation of a consensual extramarital affair was damning enough for a Presidential candidate to withdraw.

In 2016 having multiple accusations from separate women of sexual harassment, plus a tape where the candidate bragged about similar behaviors, was all seen as "fake" or "locker room talk" and the candidate became President.

The sad times we live in.

In my view we should really sit somewhere in the middle. While I find extramarital affairs wrong, if they are consensual encounters I wouldn't see that as an absolute indication to withdraw. Of course I'd prefer a married President who didn't sleep around, I would file consensual affairs under the "what he does in his private life should stay in his private life".
