No one identifies as eskimo. Best to Pick Inuit or Yupik or one of the other groups native to the arctic regions. The term Eskimo is considered derogatory by many.

Now I think of it the ditch was on my left, cop car flashing lights on and I get some idiot driving at me on my side of the road.

Flatlanders please think before you come up here.

Perhaps I should call them Snowy Ditch Left, locals reckon it is down to the number of Californians moving to Denver etc who are clueless.

It isn't really a matter of bad driving here, but just that the roads are often very slippy and they are raised up above the surrounding land to make them still accessible during flooding.  It is very easy to slide off and into a ditch because the ice just keeps on going until the drop off.  Someone will usually come along and tow you out with a pickup truck (we've done it for people too).

everything is offensive to somebody now days.

I had to explain to some Filipino friends, using the term Oriental,  that it was considered offensive by the VJ ditch dragsters.

I tried to explain why but failed miserably. Obviously this crowd of Asians thought that was silly.

Anyway, there are no indigenous peoples who call themselves Eskimo's. The term actually started as a label applied by other group(s). Several examples of that that we don't need to go into.

I used the word for years without realizing that some people found it derogatory. I worked with a guy about 10 years ago of Inuit descent who explained to me that there are several indigenous groups native to the Arctic region, and many don't like that term. He said it didn't bother him personally.

Did you tell them that made them racists?

Never had a banana Roti, dreaming if Mango and Sticky rice with sweet coconut poured over where the rice is still warm. May is the best for Thai Mango.

All delicious!  I love Thai food, period.  Make Thom Ka Ghai and Pad Ga Prow at home a lot.  And love the iced tea.

Never heard a single native mention it as offensive, particularly when used by outsiders.  You are korek in that they all refer to each other by their proper native names.
