Does an RFIE for i-485 pause EAD and AP documents as well?

Hi,

So we have been waiting 132 days. We recevied an RFIE in regards to a joint sponsor on the i-485. It was for a tax document that we did send along but apparently it's not there now. We are currently working on getting those documents gathered again and sent back in. Would the RFIE for the i-485 pause the EAD and AP documents? I don't see how this paperwork would correlate with the AP or EAD documents. How would a joint sponsor's tax information affect a traveling request or authorization to work?

I have read a lot of conflicting information so I'm hoping someone has more insight.

Thank You!

There is conflicting information on what effect and RFIE has on the EAD/AP processing or not. The general consensus is an RFIE for the I-485 pauses EAD/AP processing and restarts the timeline in which you can submit a service request. Basically if you get an RFIE on day 70, you would need to wait another full 75 days before putting in a service request. However, once the RFIE is received, it is generally thought that processing still continues wherever they left off.

Some filers who have received an RFIE were happy to see that their EAD/AP was still approved during the projected timeline, so it seems that it at least does not reset everything back to the beginning.

We received an RFIE as well back in October and are hoping that it has a minimal effect on our EAD/AP processing time...

Yesterday I learned on VJ that there used to be a sentence in RFIE saying that EAD application will be paused until your response to I-485 RFIE is received by USCIS. But now this sentence is removed from the RFIE letter. So hopefully they are separated now.

Plus, my I485 RFIE letter specifically stated that it is for the case MSCXXXXX (my AOS case number), so there is hope that it is not related to EAD...

Yes, mine specifically stated that as well! I also received conflicting information from USCIS too. One officer stated that an RFIE for an i-485 would NOT affect my AP or EAD docs because they're individual docs. While another stated it would affect them.

The entire system is ridiculous. Hoping for the best.
