It's funny because for me family this (and last year) were probably the easiest years to talk about politics at the dinner table since we all were/are fairly well aligned. We can all laugh at the twitter comments, the failed (and horribly designed) healthcare repeal bills and we all pretty much agree on the current sexual harassment cases that keep coming up.

In the past the two people most likely to disagree at the dinner table were my father and I, but we've been on the same page this last year.

that sounds awesome, i'm jealous.

thankfully, i'm on the same page with my parents and siblings. but for a handful of my family, they're die hard trump and fervently awaiting the second coming - which should be any day now.

I've sure I have some very extended family out there that may fit the bill...but they are too "extended" to come to Thanksgiving. My family doesn't gather up second cousins etc... for the event. At most it's my immediate family and my cousins/aunts/uncles from my mother's side (since they live in the same city, back when I lived there as well).

In that group really the only person who was ever "conservative" was my father, and even he has always been fiscally conservative only, while socially liberal. He has made a lot of money in life and was always honest about the fact that with Republicans he was more likely to be able to keep more of it. Even he has standards though, and wasn't able to support the Republican ticket last year.

This will have something to do with it.

It's interesting seeing these normal distributions. Looks like 10-20 yrs ago the electorate was split roughly 50%  Independent, 25% Democrat, 25% Republican now with the increasing polarization its roughly 33% Independent, 33% Democrat, 33% Republican. No wonder Donnie approval rating hovers in the 30s because most Republicans think he's doing a good job, lol.
