Hi All,

My beautiful Tuyen arrived here on the 14th, and we are so happy!  We want to get her SSN set up, and I checked the CPB website, and her i 94 is online.  Does this mean we can go and get her SSN application in, or do we need to wait a while longer?  Thanks!

I guess I'm replying to my reply, but the other question that you have is whether she will keep her maiden name or take on your last name. If she is taking on your last name, then it may actually be good to read this other site on the matter (as it recommends to wait until after marriage so you won't do this process twice. Case-by-case basis though; not sure if you're marrying closer to day 1 or day 90, plus everyone has their own unique road):

Keep digging before you act (This process is merely just started for you; it didn't end with your fiancée's arrival). Other people already went through this so learn from their experiences... I'm a July filer so hopefully I can learn from your experience soon. You seem to have been spared of some horror stories I've read recently so hope you continue going through this smoothly. Wish you the best...

Best to wait at least 2 weeks and marriage license form usually asks for SSN.

Congratulations on arrival :)

It is highly recommended to get your first SS card under your maiden name.

1. Go and get a SS# under her maiden name - how it's indicated in her passport and I-94.  You don't have to wait 2 weeks since I-94 is available online now.

2. Get married, file AOS (I-485 along with I-765 & I-131)

3. If she wants to take your last name, then file AOS under married name and AFTER receiving EAD or  a green card go back to a Social Security Office, to get her last name changed on the ss card.

I also got my Driver License (#1) as soon as I got my SS card under maiden name. DL was valid til my I-94 expiration date, but since we filed AOS asap, the 'gap" without DL wasn't that big -  once I had my Work Authorization in hands, I went to a SS Office and got my last name changed form maiden to married on it.  Then went back to DMV to re-new my DL (#2) :) , which was issued under married name that time and had the same expiration date as my Work Authorization card (EAD/AP card)

Good luck!

Not necessarily. An International Passport should be enough. But it can be easily checked with a Court House in a town/city they reside.

I will check for Clark county. We're going to be getting married in Las Vegas.  Thanks for the advice.

You are welcome :)
A lot of people are getting married in the US, having just a tourist visa (B1/B2). So, there is no SS# for them, obviously.

I believe  you should be fine with just having her International Passport :)
