Taxi driver attacks passenger who insisted on using meter

It's a good plan to take the cellphone pic of license plate when getting into a cab.

A taxi driver was caught on camera hitting his passenger after a dispute over the use of the cab's meter.

Michael Benitez was able to film his attacker with his cellphone right before he hit him in the face, as seen in a "24 Oras" report by Susan Enriquez on Friday.

With a swollen jaw and several scratches on his neck, Benitez went to the police to report the still-unidentified driver of the taxi with plate number UVY 488 into the blotter.

I have gotten out of a number of taxis where the driver refused to turn on the meter.

Rose usually argues with them.  I just tell her to get out and try another cab.

I had this happen to me in Davao one time when my flight got delayed due to a strike at NAIA. So I just went back to the hotel to spend more "alone time" with my now wife. While on the way back the taxi driver had the meter on but he kept taking me down different roads than the ones we should have been on to get to the Davao Airport, and I knew how much it should cost overall. So when he finally got me to airport and it was literally an extra 100 pesos than what it should have been I got mad and told him how much it should cost and gave him the 100 pesos instead of 200 like what he was trying to get.

I just read 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

No mention of cheating Manila Taxi Drivers but I agree it should  be in there.

First thing I do before i get it is say "Meter Na Lang"

I had to start doing that whenever I flew in to NAIA. When I fly I usually met my then fiance at the hotel and not the airport due to how many times I have flown in there to see her. I would get in a taxi and the driver would always ask me if "they could me to a bar that he highly recommends and that there are very pretty women there". I would then reply that I already have maganda gf and I don't need another one, then just pay them when I got out of the cab. Then my last couple of times I always had them to "meter na" due to them trying to overcharge me because they couldn't take me a bar.

I guess Grab in Go or something like Uber operates there and people seem to like it. Not sure if UBER is actually there.

Manila is the worse for taxi's they always say 'heavy traffic" my reply is yes ALWAYS heavy traffic it's "Manila" FFS!

Yup UBER is in Manila too.   I would be watchful when installing the GRAB app on your phone, the latest version jumps the fence regarding a boat load of privacy issues.

I have done it many times, especially in Manila.   I stayed in Ermita area one time for an extended trip a few years ago,  The average rate to go to Cowboy Grill was about 40 peso, I think flag drop was around 30 peso.  The place was pretty close, I had probably taken the route ten time in 3 weeks so I knew the amount it should be.  If the driver would hit over 50 peso I would just get out when he stopped, and get in another cab I did this many  times

That is surprising in Davao. Manila or Cebu I could see.  Did you report him to the PNP or LTO?

I had traveled to Manila area with a buddy of mine few years ago, I met a dude from Australia.  So we all ended finding girlfriends for that evening.  All 3 guys jumped in the taxi back seat of the taxi, and then had our girls sit on our lap.  The drivers says something in tagalong to one of the girls, I ask her what did he say.  She says we are overloaded and he is going to take us to the police.  I told her to tell him drop take us to the club first and drop us off and he can take his ####### to the police.

He proceeded to the club and we heard nothing further.  I suspect he was just a ploy to get more money from us.
