Few questions about the DV lottery

Good morning everyone, i have some little questions that i need an answer regarding them

1. on YouTube videos they claim that you can apply twice by making 2 applications, one for me as an example as main applicant and the second my wife will be the applicant.

Is this correct or at least MIGHT cause a problem ?

2. I have taken recent photos for me, my wife and my kid, through the excel sheet i pointed the pixel and now by calculation they are within the acceptable range that is required (Please check the attache file), now my question is :

A) do i HAVE to run it through the photo tool at the browser ? or since i am sure i have no issue and submit the picture directly ?

B) there is a website called "https://www.greencardphotocheck.com/en/" as per this site my picture is NOT approved, by with my template  it is approved and within range, is this site really correct ?

3. My wife was born in "Gaza", and they say that Gaza born kids must be selected in "Egypt", is that true ?

Hi,

i suggest you thoroughly read the official instructions, which answer all your questions from a source you can trust. The short version is “yes” to 1 and I think 3 (it’ll be explained on the form) but it’s better to get your information from the official source than YouTube videos.

DV-2019-Instructions-English.pdf

the photo check you are using is not official. It’s not mandatory to use the official one before submission  (though I’m not sure I understand why you seem reluctant to do so and would rather use another) but it’s exactly the same as the one that checks your photo for submission on the form itself so it makes sense to check first whether or not there’s a problem, because you can’t save the form to complete later.

Btw your English seems excellent but they have the instructions  in other languages too, including Arabic, if you need that:

Thanks a million, well i guess my English is okay, BUT the instruction manual in Arabic was made for DV 2014, and not all the information that are listed on the English manual are there.

So i checked the English manual

Yes, you can apply 2 separate applications if you are married, no issue at all

just as a question, each year there are 50,000 DV visas, is there a way to know how the selection is made for each country for example ? the quota ?

why am asking, i am Jordanian, but i was born in UAE (United Arab Emirates), therefore i will be native for UAE, i want to know  how many visas the UAE applicants are competing for ? like 20-30-40-90 visas ?

The quota is not per country, it is per region (other than that no single country can get more than 7% of issued visas, but this limit is only rarely hit). So all entries chargeable to UAE will be put in the same pot as all other Asian region ones and drawn out. Because it’s a random draw, you can expect the % of UAE selectees within Asia to be roughly proportional to the % of entries, which of course you don’t know in advance.

The regional quota is based on a formula (that looks at past immigration rates) and will change each year.

you can see past years’ data for entries and selections by country here: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/diversity-visa/diversity-visa-program-statistics.html

eidt: that data doesn’t go up to most recent, latest is in this, scroll to the end https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/law-and-policy/bulletin/2017/visa-bulletin-for-july-2017.html

i randomly looked at 2 different years and they were both just under 200 selectees for UAE.

Good afternoon

well i guess also as well (even it is a lottery) there are some preferences on the selection criteria as well [ this is just a thought ]

i viewed UAE in the past years by the stats , the number is increasing each year

also another question 2 questions [sorry for my keep-on-going question :)  ]

1. the selection for example 2011, i took the total for the selection which came :100,621, does this consider as all the applicants with their families ?

or this will bring the second question :

2. does it come for example to choose all the suitable applicants, the the first 50,000 who applies successfully are the chosen ones ? like first come first serve order ?

No, there are no preferences in selection, other than what is the intention of the lottery: to diversify the immigrant pool. If UAE are increasing, it could be either that more applicants from UAE are entering as a % of total and that raises their chances, or it could be that Asia as a whole is seeing its regional quota increase and UAE is simply benefitting from that. I don’t look at the quotas in detail so I can’t offer an opinion on which it might be. (What I can say - I’m not sure how far back you were checking - is that since Bangladesh got made ineligible some years ago, and Bangladesh was always a high entry country, this obviously freed up a lot of Asian slots for other countries in the region. )

Answers:

1. Yes, it includes derivatives in that number.

2. No, it’s not first come first served, applicants are interviewed in case number order. (Caveat: only those applicants who have filled in a DS260 are scheduled for interview, and note the DS also takes a couple of months to be processed to be ready for interview). The DV section of the visa bulletin each month will show what case numbers have become eligible for interview in the upcoming month.

If you do get selected, you will have plenty of time to figure out all the processes. Good luck with your entry.

Thanks a million for the information you provided me in this thread, hope the best for everyone who applies.
