Time needed between medical exam & interview for Ukraine?

Just planning ahead... my fiance and her daughter are a few hours from Kyiv, and it's harder for her to travel with her young daughter.

If we schedule the medical exam to be the day before the interview, will that be enough time? Does it take longer to get the results? I know if they ask her to take a sputum test that will take longer, but barring that, what's the normal delay?

What did you guys do for scheduling the medical exam and interview?

And while you're here, any other comments about this process are welcomed. What to take, info about vaccination records, etc...

Thanks!

Not a good idea to try to get medical the day before the interview.  I think the latest trend is the medical report is available the next day in the afternoon.  If she needs a sputum test based her chest x-ray result, you can expect a delay of about 2 months.  See my timeline below.

They do give the results the next day in the afternoon, and if her daughter's skin test is not good enough, she will have to have an x-ray done - it's on the same day but requires some extra time. I have two kids, and we had that situation with one of them. So, Your fiancee will definitely need to spend 3 days in Kiev: one for the medical, one to get the results, and the interview day. Once you have your NVC number, she can schedule the medical on the phone, the number is on the embassy website. They are nice and friendly, and give you a lot of options. In fact, they didn't even ask me for the number:) She will only need to take their vaccination records, in any form. My children had international certificates, and I just had some old document called санитарная книжка because all other medical records were lost, and they accepted it anyway.

As for the interview, your fiancee will have to wait for a call from the embassy, and then choose the time and date at traveldocs website after paying for submitting two DS-160s.

Thanks! We'll do a minimum of 3 days. I believe if we have to do a sputum test, we can still do the interview and they will hold approval until the results.

Sorry, I completely forgot that the skin test for children requires more time, I think it's 48 to 72 hours before checking. I don't remember exactly because we had really crazy days between the medical and checking the results. Your fiancee can ask about that while phoning to make an appointment. So, you might need 4-5 days.

Ah, good to know. I think then, we might have to split it up into 2 visits. She's only about 2.5 hours away by bus, so it's not terrible, but it's not exactly convenient with a small child either.  Or perhaps I can just find an Airb&b apartment nearby for a week or something for her. She's most concerned about travelling with her daughter, buying food, etc... and unfortunately, I'm not sure I'll be able to visit and help her through this. We're trying to save the bulk of my vacation from when I go there to get her / she gets to the US!

Thanks again for your help!

If I lived 2.5 hours away from Kiev, I would definitely go home between appointments, even with 5 small children:)

I'm sure they will be fine. Good luck!
