I'm not sure where the best place is to put this, so if this is wrong, then I guess it'll get moved.

I know some countries let green card holders enter without a visa (Mexico, Canada, and the Bahamas are the ones i know of). but the only way I know how to check is to look at each country's consulate's website.

Does anyone know of any other countries that let green card holders enter without a visa? I know there are some countries that he can get into without a visa because of my husband's nationality, but I'm not talking about that. Just about countries that let you in if you're a permanent resident.

Thanks!

Liz

Any country that has a visa waiver program with the green-card holder's home country.

My wife is from China, and has to get a visa to visit countries that do not have waiver programs with China, needless to say she will file for Naturalization as soon as she becomes eligible to do that, Having a US Passport has the benefit of not needing to apply for visas for many more countries than her foreign passport.

Yes, I am aware of that, but I was refering more to countries that let you come in just becaue of your permanent resident status. Example: If my husband was still in Morocco, not a U.S. permanent resident, he would need a visa to go to Mexico. Now he doesn't. The green card is enough.

Thanks for the above airline link. That helps some.

Rule change is that a passport is required for returning to the USA..... Not necessarily the other way around. This person will need to show there passport & greencard to gain entry back into USA.

YMMV

US Permanent Residents can visit Canada, and I think Mexico, without a visa (if they would normally require a visa).

Use the delta air weblink posted here to double check with the nationality in question.

Mexico too.
Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.

This further expands on what countries may not need visas to Central and South America. It looks like Green-Card holders can visit the countries in the Americas without visa, but I would check with the various embassy websites for more details.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

When entering a foreign country, whether having to apply for a visa or not, it totally depends on the passport that you hold. The greencard is only good when you enter back to the US to show legal residency. If you hold a passport of your homecountry (proof of citizenship of your homecountry), you need to check with the consulate of your homecountry and you should be able to find a list of countries that have visa waver programs associating with your passport. Because when you enter a foreign country they only look at your passport and when you come back to the US they look at your greencard.

Bordering countries with the USA will recognize a persons Green-card (I-551) as ID and proof of legal resident status of the USA and accept them as a visitor and waive the visa requirement.

When we went to Aruba last year, my husband had to get a visa as his residence was Turkey, they told us at the Netherlands Consulate that when he has his green card he would no longer need a visa to go back to Aruba.

So I am thinking, it is not so much where your passport is from it is where your legal residence is.

Just a thought?!?!?!!?

Close but not completely, It still matters where your passport is from but your LPR status in the US does open a few additional doors...

YMMV
