My (Peruvian) husband and I moved to the states a little over a year ago. He has a CR-1 visa.

Anyway, I am wanting to know if anyone has had experience with their immigrant spouse getting credit? We have tried for him to open a credit card, but he doesnt have enough revolving credit lines for them to give him one.. duh. How does he get credit if he hasnt had any before?

Have people done a secure credit card through their banks? Put something in spouses name? What have you done! HELP! We want to buy a house next year.... but he has no credit.

Thanks!

Cheyenne

Get a Secured Credit Card ;). Bank of America offers them (minimum 300$ - max. 1500$ limit that needs to be secured). After 6-12 month he should have enough Credit to switch to a normal CC. (I am spending less than 30% of my limit and always pay it back within the month, bank told me to use 80% max and only pay back a bit each month and pay back all every third month - but that comes with so many fees (that is why they said that haha) and I choose my way).

Hope that helps!

Please do some research before you apply. Check all prequalify options first.

Further:

Just put in the search secure credit cards for people without no credit history .It's important that you find the best match and you aren't applying for 5 or more credit cards at the same time. The bank will see you as desperate.

Good Luck :)
