I am currently in AOS process after marrying US citizen afrer getting K1 fiancée visa. Recently I received my Colorado State ID with the black bar on the upper left, which says :not for federal identification and voting “ . Can i use this id to board the plane within us? Also can i use my EAD card for the same purpose?

Thanks)!

Colorado ID is compliant with new real id politics so you are good to go! EAD is also fine :)

check this out: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id

But having your passport and documents regarding pending AOS wouldn’t hurt. It’s always better to be prepared ;)

It's unlikely your status will ever be questioned, but you should carry proof of it anyway.

I know that Colorado is compliant, but why does it still say on my id about “not for federal identification....bla bla”? For my understanding if it’s compliant it shouldn’t have had that black bar with that “not federal identification...”. Correct me if I’m wrong please. And thanks for your reply.

I'm not sure about that, but I would recommend taking your passport if you are doing any traveling and you can use that to board a domestic flight.

MY passport has my maiden name. My id has my husbands last name that I already use....ooops((( maybe I should carry a marriage license along with the id and passport...

The black bar bothers me too.. but here is an explanation for it

Yeah, I guess for peace mind,  might as well bring all supporting documents  (passport and marriage certificate)

If you don't mind sharing, did you apply for SSN prior to ID? I'm trying to figure out whether have to wait for EAD to get name change on my DL.

It happened last year, but the TSA person actually didn't ask me anything, but asked his colleague about it. My guess is he is new and didn't know how to interpret the black bar.

I did get the SSN prior to ID.

Colorado uses the SAVE db to issue driver's licenses.  Once you have your green card you can get a new one and it wont have the black bar.

Use your passport or ead to fly domestically.  Always book tickets in the same name as your ID.

Right now, it's probably yes - TSA will likely accept the card.

EAD card is recognised by TSA as valid identification.

Colorado ID without the black bar is compliant. The state's FAQ declares a license with the black banner is not valid for commercial air travel.

Thanks for clarifying! But OP has EAD so she is still fine with domestic flights.
