The truth is this: the alt right Bannonites are not in favor of any immigration: Green Card lottery, visas for temporary technical workers, refugees, the opinion piece even targeted family visas.  The reasons they cite are crime and freeloaders if our services. In fact they fear loosing economic and cultural identity. Immigration politics become identity politics.

 

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just think those opinions are a bit rich on a site dedicated immigration.

Odd that a site populated by people that have spent many 1000s of dollars and waited in some cases years for the their  loved ones to be approved,  should have a problem with illegal immigration.  The nerve

I don't think it has anything to do with what you describe. In reality, anyone who has been through the maze of immigration would naturally feel some sort of empathy for other immigrants.

I have seen and talked with them as well and I try to explain to them the intricacies of immigration and everything that comes with it. When I start talking real statistics, classes of visas, and the actual numbers then their eyes gloss over and they don't want to hear anything about. I have had this happen to me with people that are on both sides of this issue and it irritates the hell out of me.

 

If you can't sit there and read the actual statistics of an issue to fully understand it then don't sit there and debate someone about it. This goes for both sides of the immigration. I have tried to explain it with my neighbor because his father came over from Peru in the 60's Legally. But he didn't want to hear it because he thinks Trump wants to deport EVERY IMMIGRANT no matter what status they are in, even though he doesn't even want to learn about the different visa classifications and the time frames that go with it. 

 

I have also been accused of being a racist because I want to shut down Illegal immigration. This person went so far to say that I am a racist against people with brown skin color. I had to inform this person that my wife has looks Hispanic and has a darker complexion than a majority of Hispanic people. Not to mention I have two kids with my wife with dark skin as well that look Hispanic so how can I be racist against my own children???? All the person said was that I am racist because of my white privilege.

Of course it doesn't. This thread seems to be an excuse to bash a law signed by George H.W. Bush, with whom they seem to have a score to settle.

I have alot of empathy for LEGAL Immigrants that come here LEGALLY even though that could be through the DV lottery. As long as they come here Legally then I have no problem with them at all.

 

The DV lottery to me needs to be abolished because it was started almost 30 years ago when the country looked alot different than it does now. It is more integrated and diverse now thus we are in no longer need of a program to "make us more diverse as a country".

You are making my point that you and others think this country is "diverse enough". What exactly determines "enough" ?
