Good afternoon, my wife entered the United States on a K1 visa and we got married and she applied for adjusment of status. Her application is in process and received an EAD and I-512. She needs to go back to the Dominican Republic for a few days to see some family. First, is she allowed to leave the country and come back? Next, what will she need to do before leaving and what will she need to take with her so she can get readmitted into the United States?

In order to for her be able to leave US and entering again before her green card she will need an Advance Perole I-131, Application for Travel Document.

Normally people applying for AOS would also submit AP all together, check her EAD card, if she applied it should say Advance Perole: https://www.uscis.gov/i-131

At the bottom of the EAD Card it says "serves as I-512"

Thanks man, I don't know why my lawyer says that she shouldn't go because it's not recommended someone should travel with this?

There are lots of examples of people who have traveled with AP. Search travelling with AP.

 

The reason why people apply for AP is exactly because Green Card takes too long....there is no reason not to use. I wish I had my AP.

I know that's what it's for. But he suggests that she doesn't go until she has a green card. And i keep seeing online that it is best to wait for the green card
