Hi again, everyone!

Have another question here regarding moving. I am a Canadian citizen moving to the US before the end of November and I'm planning on bringing prescription medications with me. Now, everything I've read says "Rule of thumb: only bring 90 days worth of medication". I currently have six months worth of refills sitting beside me and I'm wondering - what is the best course of action to bring it all with me? Should I place it on my carryon and declare it and risk it being taken away? Should I only bring 3 months worth and mail the rest to myself (which is frowned upon as well)? Or should I place it all in my checked luggage? I'm not sure what the best course of action is, and the way to cause the least amount of problem during this move!

None of the medications are narcotics or not FDA approved.

Thanks in advance for your help and insight!

Prescription with your name on it? If so, bring as much as you want.

Yup, it has my name on it and I have a doctor's note just for safety sake - but it's double the recommended amount. Won't that cause a problem, or am I just freaking out over nothing?

It will not be a problem. Do not worry.

I would bring it with you in your CARRY ON. That way, you can freely (and you should) disclose it to security as it goes through. Expect to have it examined in line.

Huge amounts of medication, even with your name on it, can easily raise red flags about the sale and distribution of prescription drugs. If anything, it may get seized as quickly as a large bottle of water.

That said, if you can do without it and think you can get new prescriptions filled while in the States, I think we both know what the easiest course of action really is here.

This is sort of what I figured. The thing is, I definitely need a couple of them (I'm asthmatic), and it's way cheaper here for me vs. repurchasing in the States. Should I just bring the recommended amount, then?

Bring it all. Worst case scenario they seize it and you're no better off... but best case scenario you get to keep it.

That security cares about things go KABOM on the plane, not pills. Disclose your large electronic devices there, and do not hold up the line talking about your meds (unless they are liquids or gels).

Tell that to anyone who walks through with more than $10,000 cash too while you're at it. lol...

Sure why not: do not hold the security line by bragging about your wad of cash.

It does not mean you will not be questioned about it. It is just a wrong place to disclose it. Disclose on the customs and border protection form or its equivalent.
