not sure the fears are warranted. i've been to mexico lately and seen a lot of trucks that looked modern and well maintained. furthermore, there is a lot of money to be made and the companies that are in favor of this would not like to see it mucked up due to preventable accidents (bad equipment and drivers for example). so they will place good trucks and drivers to handle the driving in this side of the border. sounds like good business calls to me.

I know the Mexican transport industry is not as top notch as the American one, but it's not thaaaat bad, I mean, I don't think they're gonna send the crappiest trucks or the dumbest drivers to the US.. but, oh well, since its mexico, of course we are gonna smuggle drugs and people, right.. cuz thats what all MExicans do

yes, i am sure the trucks will be loaded with illegals..each of them have a kilo of cocaine and a pocketful of meth....

so.. this thread is about.. what.. saying that all drivers and mexican driving companies are full of illiterate drug illegal-smuggling drivers, and that mexican companies can't compete against the US standard, according to what? is it just a speculation or are there any facts, yes yes, i've heard stories about the non-english speaking drivers, but does that mean all the drivers are like that? or that all the companies hire such people?

or is it because now the USA is in an even NAFTA agreement, instead of the agreements that the US only wins, not Mexico

I don't claim to know anything about Mexican trucking companies or Mexican trucks in general (just want to point that out).

I do have a question though, some of you mention that these trucks won't have to follow Department of Transport regulations.

So are you saying you have no truck checks on your highways, that trucks are not pulled over randomly and regularly to be checked for road worthiness/weight/driver log etc? If you do, are the trucks from Mexico going to be exempt from these highway safety checks?
