First of all, just want to apologize if this is in the wrong place. I wasn't sure if this thread fit into the other categories.

So my husband and I will be traveling to my home country New Zealand for 2 weeks. We didn't realize that in order for an American to enter NZ that your passport has to be valid for 3 months past your departure date. We will depart NZ 12/06 and his passport expires 01/24. So thats clearly not 3 months.

So we applied to renew his passport and paid the fee to have it expedited. It says the process takes 2-3 weeks (we applied exactly 17 days before we are supposed to be leaving). A guy I spoke to on the phone about how to renew said they go by the date you'll be leaving (no idea if this is actually true, but it gave me a small amount of hope that we'd get the new passport on time).

Has anyone here had any experience with this situation? Also, do you guys know if there is anyone we can contact at all to see what's going on with the renewal?

General comments/advice on this situation are welcome too! Thank you :)

I hope you are on the side of lucky!  Not trying to be negative, but when dealing with the gov't always need to be prepared.

Not sure, but call and see if there is a passport agency near you after you call about your status.  Maybe you can change and get it issued there.....same day

I really wish you luck and hope you get it sooner rather than later.

Thank you for your reply! We actually called that number and they said it is still being processed, but if it's not shipped by Wednesday we should call and they can put an urgent 71hr rush on it
