If you are not working at at job with sufficient income now, you'll need a co-sponsor. If you are, simply state that you were a student with too little income to file taxes for the specific years that was true, and then provide pay stubs and employer letter from your current employment as evidence you currently qualify as a sole sponsor.

If my answer doesn't cover your questions, you'll need to be more specific about what you do and don't have in the way of records and current employment.

I don't have answers for most of your questions since I have not filled the form out myself yet. But I do know this. In the instructions it states that you only need your w-2's if ou are submitting a photocopy of your taxes. If you go to the IRS website you can download a form to request those tax transcripts free of charge (i think for the last 3 years). The I-864 says that you don't need the W-2's if you submit those.

It was a pretty quick return to get those forms back too, within a couple weeks I think.

If you think you don't make enough money, then read the information about using a joint-sponsor for the I-864 (on the forms instructions)

Good Luck on the rest of it.

You are better off getting a co-sponsor in order to be on safe side.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

yes you will need to provide information. I am not sure of the process when the joint-sponor lives in the same place, There will be others here that can help you more with that. But check on the IRS site here

http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc156.html

to request transcripts so you don't need to worry about W-2's

Alamir0115,

You can have your stepfather act either as a Joint Sponsor or as a Household Member. Lower financial obligation for him to demonstrate if he's a Household Member, in case that makes any difference.

Either way, you do need to supply your most recent past tax return if you filed one.

CutienPurg,

Point of clarification: I-864A is completed jointly by the Sponsor and the Household Member, not by the Household Member alone.

Alamir,

A Joint Sponsor must meet the financial requirement on their own (including their Household Members, if appropriate).

A Household Member includes their resources with the Sponsor's (or Joint Sponsor's) resources so as to increase the total resources available from the Sponsor (or Joint Sponsor). Thus the Household Member only has to have the amount that the Sponsor (or Joint Sponsor) is lacking, not the whole amount.

The form needed when a Household Member is involved is stated right there in the posts that you quoted.
