If you look at just the election process I agree with you, regardless of whether or not it is true or not, it seems clearly planned to come out now.

 

However, if you look at it from the lens of our society in general, I wonder if the timing has more to do with the other recent public releases about high powered men and their sexual assaults? Does the post say when they spoke to the 4 women? Did they come forward just recently in the last couple of weeks?

 

It is not that surprising to me, or anyone who has cared for victims of sexual assault, to think that perhaps these women kept it quiet because he was a man in power, and felt threatened by that. The recent deluge of reports about high profile men and their subsequent ostracization (sp?) for their actions may have lent the women support and courage to speak up.

i just, i can't. if we're looking to the bible to tell us what's okay and what's not..it should be acceptable that moore's accusers be stoned in public for being harlots. not to mention the absurdity in using mary and joseph's relationship and the conception of jesus as a cover - since mary was a virgin and joseph didn't even knock her up. my brain wants to explode right now. is this real life? are we in 2017?

I think you are confusing your religions.  There is one who stones women today if they are raped.

While I find the actions of this person as bad as the ones in the other post about alleged rape, I ask again... how can these people bring a suit now, after so many years?  Why does there seem to be no statute of limitations?  Or is it simply to smear them and prevent election, knowing they cannot prosecute them?

just to clarify, i was responding to a specific argument being made in defense of moore's actions - maybe read up on that before you try to jump in. second, you keep saying raped and rape isn't actually a factor here. third, i was speaking of the mary and joseph/jesus conception comparison in biblical times - when stonings of women were the go to punishment. not to mention that women were bought and sold and traded like cattle. 

and also, mary and joseph weren't even christians. they were jews.

Fair enough.  I mis-read the original stoning being towards the accusers, sorry about that.

 

In spite of the scriptures, however, I have never in my lifetime heard of any christians being put to death by stoning for anything.  (As you said - in biblical times) I have read, however, that some women are put to death today for letting another man touch them, even though it was unwilling on the woman’s part.  That sounds like quite the travesty to me.

It is beyond the statute of limitations. The women decided that people needed to know. That was the reason for going on record - but as mentioned they did not approach WaPo.

Ok, so it’s not my lack of understanding of the law then, thanks.  So to do it right before an election, or other big event in the man’s life, knowing that nothing legal can be done about it, must be either to smear him, ruin his life, or revenge.  Which is understandable, if the victim’s life was ruined before.

 

But as mentioned elsewhere, doing it right before an election is a pretty low-ball tactic.  What if the allegations are false?  The person likely won’t have time to defend or rebut, and will also likely not get elected.

And you deem that sufficient reason to absolve Moore on molesting a 14-yo? I don't see how one thing justifies the other.
