Question about signing Tax Return copy submitted with I-864

Hello,

 

On November 6th, I filed my AOS package for my wife.  And today I realized something that kind of makes me uneasy.

 

As we all know, we submit a "copy" of the tax return paperwork of most recent year.  I submitted with my I-864 the Form 1040 and all schedules from my tax year 2016 tax returns.  These were copies of my personal records I keep of my taxes.  I don't e-file my taxes, I always mail them.

 

Well, it just dawned on me, that the copy of my 1040 I sent in with my I-864, was not signed nor dated.  It was just a copy of tax paperwork from my records.  The signed copy obviously went to the IRS when I filed my taxes.  And yes, I did sign the I-864 form.

 

Thoughts on if I messed up?  Should that 1040 should of been signed? :(

Eligible as of February 18th, 2021...

I don't think you need to worry.  Worst case scenario is that you will get an RFE asking you to send a signed copy, which will delay processing, but it should not result in a denial.  In the meantime, you could log on to https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript and request a transcript by mail (it seems that Get Transcript Online is not currently available to new users) so that you would have the transcript on hand and could send that in lieu of the signed 1040 if you receive an RFE.

I just requested my 2016 Return and Account transcripts.  So I'll have them handy IF I need them for an RFE.  Hopefully not though.  I provided copies from my records, as it was instructed, I gave original signed copy to IRS.  Hopefully they aren't so picky. :(

Interview Scheduled: Jan 2nd - I managed to get someones canceled appointment the very same day my case status turned to Ready.

Biometrics: Mexico City Dec 27th Medical: Mexico City Dec 28th

Case says READY but consulate says case is not in system, I jumped the gun and booked an interview but they say its invalid until I receive the letter so I might have to cancel it.

Appointment Letter: Flew to Juarez just to get this, its actually 2 letters you need.

Interview Day: Jan 2nd   Interview Result: APPROVED

Tracking Number Received: Via email notice and website the afternoon of Jan 4th    Visa Delivered: Friday Jan 5th Mexico City

USCIS Notice - Green Card mailed: 3/28/18

No, I sent in copies of my 1040 and associated schedules for 2016 Tax Returns.  Same paperwork you mail to IRS every year.  Except since it was just a copy from my files, I didn't re-sign it.  So signature field is blank.  I figured they just wanted the paperwork submitted, not necessarily signed copies.
