I-765 renewal application rejected

One of the reasons stated for the rejection was: The payment amount is incorrect, or has not been provided.

I did not submit a payment as second time around I am applying under eligibility category C9 (due to my pending application for adjustment...I-485 from K-1) which was filed earlier this year. I filed my first I-765 along with the I-485 so did not have to pay separately and received the EAD card no problem. I am confused as on page 16 of the Instructions for the form it states:

Renewal EAD. If this is a renewal application and you are applying under one of the following categories, a filing fee is not required:
1. (a)(8) Citizen of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, or Palau;
2. (a)(10) Granted Withholding of Deportation;
3. (c)(l), (c)(4), or (c)(7) Dependent of certain foreign government, international organization, or NATO personnel; or
4. (c)(9) or (c)(16) Adjustment applicant who applied after July 30, 2007.
 

I am not sure why the payment was listed as an issue, can anyone shed light on this? I could resubmit with fees which I suppose would be sent back if not necessary but I wanted to hear someone else's experience.

With the ead renewal did you include a photocopy of the noa1 (acceptance letter) for your I-485 as evidence of eligibility not to pay the fee?

Did you send a copy of the I-485's NOA1 with the I-765 packet? Read further down on the same page:

 

"NOTE: If you filed Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, as of July 30, 2007, and you paid the Form I-485 filing fee , no fee is required to also file a request for employment authorization on Form I-765.

 

You may file the Form I-765 with your Form I-485, or you may submit the Form I-765 at a later date. If you file Form I-765 separately, you must also submit a copy of your Form I-797C, Notice of Action, receipt as evidence of the filing of Form I-485 as of July 30, 2007."

Yes I sent in the I-797c along with it that is why I am confused.

You said "one" of the reasons stated....what were the other reasons listed in the notice?

 

Sounds like you got a generic letter listing all possible reasons, and your application may have been rejected for something else, not the payment.

The other reason was the incorrect version of application form which I have now fixed. I talked to two people at immigration today, one said I didn’t need the fee and the other said I did so I emailed the support address provided to ask and am waiting on a response but wanted to see what was others’ experience. I mean it clearly says that if I am filing under c9 then a fee is not required.
