Very Silly Question

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to settle a bet with my husband and I need your knowledge of ME customs. My husband tells me that it is customary in Saudi Arabia to greet others with an eskimo kiss (you know, rubbing noses). I think he's pulling my leg because the idea seems a bit silly to me.

Can someone confirm??? If I'm right - he's cooking dinner for a week!

Jenn it's true. My husband told me that's how people or men greet each other in the gulf states.

they don't do the kissing on the cheeks there.

So true... In Senegal I thought it was the cutest thing. Most of the men would carry purses (small, over-the-shoulder ones) and lots of them hold hands with each other, so you'd see these young men carrying purses holding hands walking down the street. I don't even have any gay friends here who would carry anything remotely purse-like!

wow - I am from the middle east and I did that know that. In Lebanon you do the 3 or 4 kiss on the cheak.

I have seen them kiss several times on the check, but never touch noses. I asked my husband and he said it isn't customary for Morocco, but he saw it when he was visiting his sister in Dubai.

Now that's something new, my Director is often in Dubai and so is our Tech manager, in fact they have travelled all over the Gulf States and have never mentioned anything about that to me.

Just wait till they get back this time I'll certainly be asking a thing or two

I asked Abdel about it last night and he said that is customary in the Gulf States.

I asked my Aunt who has spent more than 30 years of her life in Saudi Arabia about this. She never noticed this, but did mention the cheek kissing. Maybe it happens but isn't that common?

Abdel seemed to think that Saudi wasn't where it was common, just the Gulf States in general. I know we have some Saudi customers but they don't even speak to most women when they're here, and I don't meet with them either, so I wouldn't know. All I do is send them bills and then bug them when they haven't paid them!
