The reason I don't like Oprah (the show, not the woman, i'm indifferent to her) is because there is rarely ever some REAL people on there. It's usually celebrities or people who have done some amazing things. I guess normal every day people with normal every day problems wouldn't make good tv.

Does watching it make them stupid or were they stupid before hand i.e. stupid people are more likely to choose to watch Oprah. Were they tested before a years worth of Oprah, to see if their was a decline in their abilities, stayed the same or actually improved. Could just be a case of stupid is as stupid does :dance:

Time spent doing research studies showed me one thing and one thing only you can get any result you want from any data provided if you look at it skewed enough

I voted YES. ;)

And it ain't just Oprah's show that makes people stupid...

I have to agree with you......Fox News is terrible.

Watching Sean Hannity is worse than listening to him on his radio show. Either way, I can practically feel the brain cells dying while he talks!

Ain't that the fcuking truth!

I dunno...I see promos for her show all the time and there seem to be "normal" people. She's doing some sort of debt diet with "normal" people. Hmmm, just took a look and her schedule for the rest of the week is

  • Dad faces teen killer of his family
  • Inside the lives of America's poor
  • What every woman should know

Those don't sound like celebrities....

I watch TV but not the soaps and chat shows if I can help it... I watch the news, the history channel, national geographic; the sports channels (I have a huge problem - wanna know if and where the World Cup will be on in the USA coz I have to watch it... gotta cheer the lads on)... I enjoy Brit comedies like Father Ted (tragic that Father Crilly died); love Monty Python too. Enjoy watching The Weakest Link. Soaps are addictive and I refuse to be addicted to the idiot box... my mum and so many of her age are addicted to some stupid hindi soap called bap bhi kabi bahu thi... I shudder at the very notion of becoming addicted to such vacuous, inane & arrant nonsense

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

Received on 7th August 2009 in VT

Actually, I just read the description and it's about a guy, who when he was a teen was drag racing with some buddies and hit a car with a woman and her kid, killing them instantly....so the title is misleading...

Anyway, my point was...these aren't celebrities.

ok, but i guess my point is she never has things that I care about. Today she had something about botox injections

Last few weeks I've been watching Montel and he's talking about things like why cleaning up New Orleans hasn't happened yet, why it's important to question the govt, and why buying an airline ticket doesn't give you the right to be a jerk to people working for the airline.

I guess I just have different cares than most people.

when was his last show on paternity? there was a time that was about the only thing he had on his show... "who's your baby's daddy?"

"True love is falling in love with your best friend,

and only then, will you find the meaning of happiness."

Sadly, around here it would seem that way.

Maury inherited that #######.

Honestly, though. To me it seems that most this stuff is made up nonsense that they put on because there's an audience for it. At the end of the day, it ain't about helping people or discussing the real challenges that America faces or any such thing. It's about a network making dough. ;)
