Obviously some people are uncomfortable discussing the subject at hand. I don't know why that is. It's a serious issue.

the effect all these shootings have on the upcoming generation is certainly no laughing matter. and have nothing to do with hillary. or vampires.

Yeah, when my 5 year old told me about the drill, my thought was: let's hope this will never happen, cause kids won't stand a chance. During the drill they had to keep quiet to prevent alarming the possible intruder, kids in his class were crying....

I also hope these drills are just that ... drills.

A determined person would easily beat the best of preparation. They even may take the subtle approach (OKC style).

It is best to be prepared for all emergencies.

The twins and their classmates got a kick out of their intruder drill.  Silence in an elementary school is really weird ... especially with the open rooms concept.

Open concept and shelter-in-place ... let's hide where you can easily be seen.

Hope you felt the same about the much more frequent drills ...fire,  severe weather (tornado), etc.

My guys actually got to put into practice one of their drills due to smoke billowing out of the cafeteria.

They were worried the cafeteria wouldn't be open the next day ...

obviously some kids are more sensitive and anxious than others. not all kids get 'a kick' out of practicing such scenarios. some kids really put themselves mentally in that situation. they overthink it. they internalize it.

As I said, too easy for people who shouldn't have firearms to have them. As a country we always circle back to that when these tragedies happen, but for some reason we are content to move on instead of doing something about it.

In this case its not whether its easy or not, but why did his Federal Background Check come back clean when it wasn't. Did someone fail to put the info into the NICS?

Existing law should have denied his purchase.

Hurricane drills I see them as something that can't be really prevented, it's a natural disaster, same with earthquake when we lived in California.  Fire drills are a good thing, can't practice those to often.

Intruder drills, unfortunately they are necessarily, but unlike the other drills they can be prevented by changing the mentality. I personally believe that something has to change in the American culture ( no offense). I don't believe in gun control, i believe in change of culture of glorifying violence and what I call the 'hero' culture.

'"They were worried the cafeteria wouldn't be open the next day ... "

Mine was worried that they can't do " trick or treat" because the intrder might have taken all the candy....they had the drill a day before Halloween.

These people were in church, praying to God and it didn't stop them from getting mowed down. There wasn't even a good guy with a gun.

and meet the guy, who is a plumber, who proves that statement wrong.......

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

I tried to explain and said: well, there are bad people every where. His answer was if we could move to Mars.

Even a 5-yo knows there is little you can do against a crazy terrorist with a gun.

sadly, but true...well there is something that can be done and that's changing the culture that glorifies a meltdown. I believe Michael Douglas Falling Down is a classic.

well thank god we had a legal gun owner there to stop him

Didn't stop him that well, considering he got into his vehicle and continued to drive, and like the true wuss he was offed himself. He may have motivated him to flee, but by that time the damage was already done.
