No, first they came for fully automatic firearms. Get it right:jest:

True, they did that and now they are working their way down the list.

I use my Rifle for Hunting, I have a couple of .22LR's for plinking, all legitimate uses.

None of which of course is confirmable.

Nothing will ever be 100% effective. There will always be people who "slip through the cracks".

The problem is right now these cracks seem to be coming up with alarming frequency.

I would love to see the following process:

1. Apply for a firearm with the police office (pay a fee) - With references

2. Application processed

3. THOROUGH background check

4. References checked (References related to your use of the firearm - So hunting club etc...)

5. Schedule an in person interview

6. Schedule an in person mental health screening/evaluation

7. Schedule an in home visit - You must demonstrate safe storage investment PRIOR to getting the license (This can be one of the last steps, so essentially the process says you will be granted a license as soon as you purchase and demonstrate you are prepared to handle the weapon safely)

8. Approval

The process should take a couple months. It should be thorough. We need to apply the "swiss cheese" model of safety, just like we do in the hospital. Every system has cracks, every system has a potential for error. But if you layer multiple systems with DIFFERENT cracks on top of each other, the chance of an error passing through a crack in each one becomes smaller and smaller.

Once you have the license, it needs to be renewed on a yearly basis with a new background check. You are registered as a gun owner and it automatically flags if the police are called for an unrelated reason. So if they respond to a domestic violence call at your home, and you a registered gun owner, that automatically gets flagged and you need to be "rescreened" to make sure you remain a safe gun owner.

Would also like far far more restrictions on the type of guns. You want to hunt, you want to clay shoot? Fine. You can buy the weapons suitable for the hobby. That's it.

Liberals have convinced gun owners they want to take away their guns.  The Republican party and the NRA are acknowledging that intent and are fighting back against it.  Gun owners don't need to compromise on gun rights, because the Constitution says those rights "shall not be infringed".  I'm not going to compromise on my rights to free speech or any of the other rights given to me by my creator or the Constitution, so why would I compromise on my gun rights, given to me by the 2nd Amendment?

We have a process in America for amending the Constitution.  When the Constitution is amended to remove my gun ownership rights, then I'll willingly turn in my guns.  If the Constitution isn't amended, I don't need to compromise on my gun rights, it isn't a second class right, just like I don't need to compromise any of me other rights.

Do you own nuclear weapons? How about fully automatic machine guns? Or is the right to free speech unlimited? The Constitution says everyone has the right to free speech, but obviously that doesn't give me license to go to a crowded theater and scream 🔥 or bomb at the top of my lungs? Does it?  When someone gets murdered in the streets because someone wants to fully exercise their rights, what about the victim? No rights for you?

Well I am sure many on here have similar views about being able to post Political Views, unless they are the correct ones of course.

Fortunately the US has a Constitution to protect Citizens rights.

All of the victims' right have been perpetually denied.

Posting political views is just as likely to murder 26 people in a church as praying is going to stop the mass shootings in America.

Unfortunately our 2nd amendment "right" is doing a piss poor job of protecting one of our core unalienable rights (life).

Right now our constitution and our government is failing to do one of it's core jobs. Protect its citizens.

The Shotgun license would have been to go Clay Pigeon shooting. (Clay Pigeons are not animals, they are made of clay)

i'm sure someone will claim they have rights anyways....

Clay shooting is still a popular activity in the UK, and yet somehow they manage to avoid mass shootings on a yearly basis. Now more like twice yearly.

Oh yes but it's mental health...that's the problem. The USA just happens to have a monopoly on the violent "mass killing" mentally ill people.

Oh but mental health isn't a big enough problem for it to actually be covered for all citizens. Of course that would just be crazy. We need to allow insurance companies to opt out of covering it, so less people have it covered and less people can receive resources. That will surely fix the problem...

The thought process of Republican legislators is truly baffling. They seem to keep everything compartmentalized. It's a "mental health issue" when we try to talk about guns and mass shootings. When we want to talk about access to mental health resources and insurance coverage, they instead want to cut access to millions of people.

I now have an image in my head that will be here for the rest of the day.

maybe now's the time for your safe space?

No place is going to be safe enough to cope with this....

Reminds me of the Playboy Bunny who got an O1, should not have googled her name.
