One of the most simple truth's I learned in computer school. Ask the user what has changed since this problem started. 90% of the time that was the problem. It works on so many things in life.

 

40 years ago we had just as much or more gun availability but very little mass shootings.

 

Somethings changed. Its not the guns

sort of illogical to think that the amount of guns and availability of guns is the same but the population has increased. what's your source?

You're projecting your own sense of hopelessness onto others.  I am extremely hopeful about President Trump's 8 years in office.  You on the other hand, seem to be not dealing with it very well.
