My fiance and I have a serious problem with my letters not reaching him in Cairo. I've received everything he has sent to me but by his record he hasn't received about 10 of my letters. We decided that any mail I send will be registered, but when I went to check out how much it cost imagine my surprise when I saw that it cost $50!!

I don't care if it's express mail, I just want someone to sign for it, and all I see is express which of course costs the $$. Is there a cheaper way?

Of course, if I'm sending a big packet of important papers, (like the photocopies of our I-129F application, NOA1, I-134 etc etc) I'll be glad to pay the $50 just because it contains sensitive info. But as for little love notes...noooo..

Is this going to cause a problem if we stop mailing letters when he goes for his interview? He doesn't get my letters anyway so would the CO understand if we decide to switch to just emails and phone bills?

Divorced. To hell with him.

My fiance lives in a small village. In a year and a half, he has gotten EVERY single letter I ever sent, including all the documents, cards, pictures, you name it. Just last week he got one of my letters and it was opened. That was a first. We never had a problem with the USPS.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

ONly about 50 percent of the letters I sent have actually arrived. ANd it is always opened. THat really bothers me....they steal things too...I don;t trust them at all. We stick to things where people do not invade our privacy. It shouldn't be their business to open our letters. What can I say oh yeah Egypt.

Honestly I think its a wonder anything gets through to Egypt, lol. Most of the time my letters, if he gets them, are opened as well. I'm so anxious about having to send him anything important that he needs for packet 3 (I want to send everything ahead of time so that way if I have to send it again then we won't delay anything too much)...but it's just real nervewracking.

His arrive here a little beat up, but never opened.

actually one of my bigger problems now.. Is I want to send him stuff.. and my neice and nephews.. BUT my husband said the Customs is too much for him to pay.. the last time i sent him a package i think he said he almost paid 100 L.E. for it :(

Which sucks.. cause I want to send clothes and toy donations to the orphanage i visited.. but I dont want them to have to pay a customs tax :( Does anyone know if charity is exempt from that?

I've sent several packages through the U.S. postal system and never had a problem. I send them registered so it does cost a little bit more, but I don't mind paying it since all the packages have been recieved fine.

They do open them to check what's inside, but we've never had anything go missing, and I've sent chocolate and other candies and all sorts of things.

He only had to pay a small tax as well, so maybe it depends on the person in the post office who they get when they go to pick up the package.

And I've always written his address in english.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

We never had a problem with him getting the letters I sent to him.....we just never knew WHEN he'd get it. Sometimes he would get a letter in 7 day (WOW!!!!!) and others would take 3 weeks. I did finally startmaking a little collection of letters and sending them to him once a week by registered mail.

Most of Ramy's letters reach me in 7-10 days (surprise!) and if mine get there, mine take about 3 weeks. Well, except for one I sent in September that reached him in 7 days, which surprised both of us.

The funny thing is we never fail to receive a letter from each other on our birthdays. I had mailed him a video-birthday-card that I put together for his 18th birthday (this was almost 6 years ago lol) and mailed it over 3 weeks before his birthday, and he got it right on that day. (How can you plan for that?) Of course he had to pay a bit to pick it up so I never did that again...haha.

ok, registered mail it is. But just incase it gets stolen (with our photocopied I-129F and stuff) should I black out any part of the copies? I don't want to be well-meaning and end up messing up anything for his interview because I blacked it out.

Divorced. To hell with him.
