I was quoting this post.... I do not condone murder...

You were being dramatic and you even said so. Suggesting we murder illegal immigrants in the USA is just as ridiculous as suggesting we enslaving them.

remember this? ;)

A bit of Drama is good for you.... :P

If you think anyone here condones slavery, you're sadly mistaken & are not recognizing sarcasm.

Okay .. I'll play too ...

If an illegal alien child after finishing completion of grades 1-12 courtesy of US taxpayers generosity, then desires to move onto college, maybe this person needs to assume the same colligate path as others from his/her native country. Meaning return to the native country and apply for a student visa.

With a student visa, their illegal alien status becomes a non-issue, and upon graduation they can apply for a work visa or other visa type to remain in the US and eventually adjust to a legal status if they so choose.

While waiting in their home country for the student visa to be approved, this 18 yr old "child" has the advantage of a good education, potentially is fluent in 2 languages, and should be capable of securing a job while waiting for the visa. As for the right to be charged as "in state tuition", this 18 year old illegal child after approval for a proper student visa, should pay the same tuition as any other foreign 18 year old child with a legal student visa properly applied for from their native country.

As for the parents of this child, they should be deported and refused future visas due to their illegal actions and total disregard for US laws.

Luckily, here in FL, my wife can qualify for in-state tuition either by her residency, or mine.

Since her green card just came in the mail yesterday, this is a good thing for us. Grad school is not cheap. (Actually, the in-state $3,800/year is a bargain). She will end up next year with a US Master's degree for about $5,000 all together.

Had they required her to establish residency on her own (voter registration - not possible), paying for grad school would be much harder.

They did make sure that she was here legally, which seems reasonable to me.

As a student in Maine, I had to wait a year before I qualified for in-state residency. Without in-state tuition, I could not afford to go to college. I still can't afford to attend the state university; I'm at community college. I work and I pay my taxes to the state of Maine, and I've paid my money to be allowed to live here. Why the hell should some illegal alien be subsidised by my (immigrant) tax dollars when I can't even afford to get my own education?

Thanks for getting me all wound up just in time for lunch ;)

ETA: Once they graduate and get a job, Kez, they'll then be working illegally too. They have to become legal somehow, sometime - and if that means going back to their country of citizenship, even if they've never lived there, so be it IMHO.

Sounds like a fair system there.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I was not able to be treated as a resident based on my husband, although he has lived over 95% of his life in Maine. My residency had to be built up by myself, on my own. My community college tuition costs me just under $100 per credit hour as an in-state resident, and the state uni is about twice as expensive. Without qualifying for in-state tuition, I would not have a hope of paying for any college at all.

My hubby works in NH. If we were to move down there, I would have to go through the whole process of waiting a year again in order to be able to pay for my tuition at in-state rates. If every state thought like MA, illegals would be able to just pick up and get in-state tuition anywhere in the country, without even having the legal right to remain in the US! That pisses me off beyond belief.

Speaking of which, I am off to go to my math class!!
