I wonder why they even sent black and white copies to applicants. Maybe the original ones were sent to the lawyers?

Also, is anyone planning to apply for citizenship before the GC comes? It's also a year long process now..

We also received the copy, but never used a lawyer during the whole process.  We will be filing for citizenship as soon as qualified.  Just counting the days, now.

Like me , there is several people who received a courtesy copy instead of Official letter and we didn’t have an attorney.

Im thinking  into applying for citizenship as well but I’m undecided if should use an attorney or to do it myself.

Haven't received any communication (extension or decision) from my I-751 USCIS received 9-11-18.

My GC extension expires in late November 2018 so I called USCIS, took two calls to get someone who could use their computer system and answer my questions. Advice was to make an Infopass appointment with my 'local' office (1.5 hour drive away) to get an extension, while I have no travel plans I do work and need my authorization to work to continue. Unfortunately right now no available appointments are showing online (of course). Pretty anxious about the whole situation and not too pleased with needing to schedule time off work at short notice.

Has anyone gone through this sort of process to gain an extension? Anything I should expect?

From other posts I have seen on the forums, the Infopass appointment system resets at 12am every day, so the best time to look online for appointments is between 12am and 2am.

In terms of the process, I believe you just take your passport, expired green card and extension letter to the appointment and they will stamp your passport which will serve as the extension.  Most officers seem to also retain your expired green card.

Did you received the courtesy copy too?

i received a courtesy copy and because is a copy is not valid. For the same reasons you have. I also work and I need my status to be current.   I read on other post people is doing an e-request of no delivery notice to try to get the official 18-month extension letter.

I also read if you get stamp they will keep your green card.

Im in TX. CSC.  January 2018 filer. Didn’t have a lawyer.

I called USCIS last week because I haven't got an extension letter or any updates.

I asked them about the 18-months letter and the person at the phone told me that it would be likely be sent 30 days prior the expiration date of the original extension one.

We filed at VCS and he said that at the moment waiting times for that center are between 14,5 and 17 months.

He was able to tell me that at the moment the case was active and didn't need further evidence.

I also asked him about applying for the citizenship 90 days prior the 3rd anniversary of the GC and he suggested me to wait until the day of.

He said that sometimes they send the petition back if it is filed before the 3-year mark.

Just wanting to share my experience.

For once I actually got a very nice person at the phone and not someone just reading off a script!

Whose case status is still showing "case was recieved " ? I gave biometrics and everything but still nothing

Probably everyone since the USCIS might just be working on May/June 2017 ROC cases.  The only ROC cases that would have be touched are the combination cases to file for citizenship.
