Wow, I just checked my status online as well and it also says it's at the local office--as of today, February 27. Weird!

We mailed our forms on November 9 and I did my biometrics two months ago.

Submitted form Nov 17

Got the first NOA (I-751) but never recieved the NOA2 (CR1-89) w/Bio Apt.

Read thread, and called in and spoke with Level 2 people

They finally sent Bio Apt letter sent Feb 17, Received Feb 27, Apt date of Mar 8

Also NOW the NOA Case number DOES show up on USCIS site (before it didnt) and it says as of Feb 27, it's assigned to the local office.

The NOA2 (CR1-89) Case number (which is different) references Nov 28 date (same date NOA was sent) and says the bio letter will be sent and to contact them by Dec 28 if I dont get it.  Seems they may have sent it, but I never got it.  But got a new date/appt now.

Next steps:

- will attend bio apt on March 8

- will wait to see what the local office does

Please keep us posted folks on this whole local office bit.

From reading about the "received at local office" I checked using both WAC numbers.  The first one is still shown as case received 11/08/2017, the second one from the NOA1 letter now works and says received at local office 2/27/18, in the bottom right corner it says, "We will prepare your case for officer review" does anyone else have this?

Interesting.  I guess we can wait and see if this speeds up our process any.  I don't mind, I will file N-400 in early November.

Checked the Case Numbers too.

Same here: one says "On November 14, 2017, we received your Form CRI-89", and the other one says "CASE RECEIVED AT YOUR LOCAL OFFICE".

Hopefully they are trying to speed up the process and we hear something soon  :D

Hey, I am new on these forums. I have a few questions at the end in purple.

I filed back in November. I had my biometrics on 12/21/18.

On my biometrics sheets there were two application #s. The first application # was a I751-WAC number and application number 2 was a CR189-WAC number. These two numbers are very confusing.

About two weeks ago, I've logged in to check my case. It didn't accept the first application # (the I751). It did accept the second number (the CR189 one). All it said was for the CR189 is:

On November 24, 2017, we received your Form CRI-89, Petition to Remove Conditions of Permanent Resident Status Received, Receipt Number WACXXXXXXXXXX, and sent you the receipt notice that describes how we will process your case.

Today I logged in again. It still says the same for my second (CR189) number.

However, today I was able to log in with my first number as well (the I751). It says.
On February 26, 2018, we received your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number WACXXXXXXXXXX, at your local office. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? What is the difference between the two application numbers anyways? What does it mean that they moved my case to the local office?

Also, has any of you traveled international while waiting with the extension letter? What are your experiences? I kind of need/want to travel this spring but I am hesitant using just the extension letter plus with potential interview....we send so much evidence that I am hoping for no interview, but you never know. It is so confusing! A friend of mine went through the same process about 5 years ago and she was approved within 2-3 months, but searching online it seems to take way longer nowdays....

The first number is your NOA1 case number and you will note there is only one WAC number on this notice and this is the notice you will need to carry along with your passport and expired GC when you travel.  (Yes, it is fine to travel outside of the USA with these documents.  Always have all 3 documents ready for the CBP officer.) The second number which appears on your Biometrics Appt notice, beside your first WAC number, indicates you've been scheduled for biometrics and my guess is it will be linked up your biometrics stats. It is these 2 numbers you use to check your case on USCIS.

There's been much chatter on VJ about 'transfer to local office' that people think its a glitch.  USCIS has done several tools updates with another one happening today   https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/tools-outage  There is speculation that since I-797 is taking so long at both service centers, USCIS has transferred the workload to local offices.  Since nothing is 100% confirmed and there's been tools updates (one happening again today https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/tools-outage ) there is speculation of the 'transfer to local office' being a glitch.  One would think if our cases have been sent to  a local office (which is a smaller USCIS office near you.  The one you will travel to for your interview, biometrics, etc)) that we would have received email or text messages stating our files were transferred, but no one has, which is making this 'transfer' thing look fishy.

When you type in your first number you should get the 'transfer message', some are getting the same message for the second WAC number, others aren't.  Its really weird.

Statistics are showing 12-18 month wait for processing.  Some have waited 24-34 months.  Its ridiculous.  There are some other threads on ROC you should read to keep abreast.

You come to the right source to ask your question.

Many people on this forum have described their experiences traveling abroad with the extension letter--and from what I have seen, it's all been fine. I hope this gives you peace of mind.

I was nervous too, but all I had to do was show my passport, the letter, plus my expired GC, and I had no issues. I did have to explain to one lady at the check-in desk what the deal is with the letter, and she showed her manager, who said it was fine. Most airlines understand that this is a common procedure in the US. When I returned to JFK, I went straight to the immigration officer since the machine couldn't scan my expired GC. He looked at my passport, my GC and the letter and said "Everything is in order here. Welcome back, miss." So try not to worry!

Hi there! Did you receive an interview date? My status showed that my stuff was transferred to the local office on the 26th, now it say march 5th instead. I haven't received a letter regarding an interview (OR anything else for that matter!). I do not have a lawyer either so such mistake with the 2 copies could've not happened.
