There is no information online to tell you about your BIO appt.  I would recommend calling and asking for a Level 2.

Bit of back story, I received my BIO letter on Dec 27th for a Jan 3rd appt. (the letter was dated Dec 15th, postmark was Dec 20th, received on Dec 27th).  I was not able to make Jan 3rd, so I followed the instructions in the letter and sent it back the same day requesting a re-schedule.    I called USCIS on Jan. 8th as I had not heard on my re-scheduled appointment.  Level 1 could not tell me anything - it was obvious that they did not have any access to the information regarding BIO appts.  All they could tell me about my case was the same thing I can see online.  Once escalated to a Level 2, they were able to tell me the date of my rescheduled appointment.  They also told me if I did not receive my letter by Jan. 16th (ie today) to call them and they would fax it to me, so I will be calling back today as I have not received my new letter.

Good luck!

It seems that ROC are taking 14-16 months at the moment. And when we receive our NOA letter, it gives us a 12 month extension on our work and residence rights, which is all good. So I'm just wondering: when that 12 month extension letter expires, do they automatically send us a new one, or do we become unable to work/travel for the final few months of waiting for our new Green Card?

I'm currently applying to jobs, and I'm wondering how I will explain/justify all this to potential employers. "Well, i AM eligible to work here free of restrictions, yes, but I can't prove it beyond the end of this extension letter that expires next November... but I promise I most probably will have a ten-year GC about a year from now, honest! Still hire me, please...?"

Anyone in a similar situation?

Good luck!

Called this morning explained the situation to level 1 and asked to be escalated to level 2.  She was very friendly, understood what I was looking for and immediately transferred me to level 2.  The wait was about 180 min, so I requested the system to call me back.  Got a call back in 30 min (to my surprise).  Level 2 asked me a few questions to verify that I was who I said I was.  Understood what I was asking for, took my fax number and phone number (in case there was a problem) and said I should receive a fax in 2-3 hours.   Received the fax about 4 hours later (not complaining) and now am good to go for my BIO appt in New Orleans on Jan 22nd!  All I have to do is drive 100 miles for a 5 min appt.....oh well, it gives me an excuse to go to Drago's for lunch. :)

All and all, my first experience with getting an issue to level 2 was very positive.

My understanding is they do not send another letter.  You will need to book an infopass appointment before your letter expires and get a stamp in your passport.  That stamp is good for 1 year.  You keep going back to get a stamp until you get a decision on your I751  (aka assuming it is positive, your 10yr green card).   It has always been a bit of question in my mind as to why, if they know it is going to take 14-16 months, why they have not modified the current letter to make the expiry on the letter 16 months rather than 12.  That would save a whole lot of work for everyone.

Can really help with you second question...I am kinda in the same boat.  In fact I was hire today for a job, my application did say I am a legal resident and I am eligible to work and gave them my SSN.  I did not give them any other details (GC number, expiry date, etc) and they have not asked for anything else....yet.

Thanks, NovaSprings, that's really useful to know! I agree re: the extension letter - it's a pity they don't make them 2 yrs as standard, given they already know that processing is taking well over a year. Congrats on your new job!!!

Anyone had their BIO appt in New Orleans, where did you park??  Thinking of trying the Hyatt next door.

Completed my BIO appt on Monday Jan 22. in NOLA.  The office is right downtown and there is now a new parking garage right next door.  Not bad price for downtown, $10 per hour.  I arrive 2 hours early for my appt, but I thought I would see if they could take me early.  When you arrive at the 18th floor you will pass through the metal detector and you will need to remove your shoes (expect for trainers).  If you are there for your BIO appt only, go to your left.  The lineup to the right is for infopass and interview appointments (I made the mistake of standing in the infopass line for 5 min before I asked someone).   When I arrived at the BIO desk, there was no one waiting.  They agent took me straight away, asked for my letter and ID and gave me a form to fill in.  He was training someone so it was a bit slower.  Once I filled in the form, I was taken to the next room where my picture and fingerprints were taken.  Most have noted that they were asked for only the four fingers on the right hand, but for me, they took a full set of prints, 4 fingers then thumb on both hands, then each finger which was rolled right to left. (so 14 images in total, not sure if this was because the trainee was there).  Once that was done, I was given my letter and form back with a stamp on it and a customer survey to fill out.  I filled out the survey and deposited it in the box.  As I left, someone else was approaching the desk, but still no one waiting. Total time in the office was 20 min.

I will also note that I NEVER received my second appointment letter (reschedule request).  Had I not called and talked to a Level 2 supervisor (see my previous posts) I would have never known that I my appointment was scheduled for Monday.   I would strongly suggest that if you are a NOV filler and still have not received your letter to call USCIS and ask for a level 2 supervisor.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone traveled out of the USA or is planning to travel while they wait for the AOS

My husband and I are traveling to Italy this Spring to visit family and I am wondering what he needs to show at the airport other than his passport, green card, and letter of extension to get back into the USA (?)

Any experiences yet or recommendations?

Thanks!

Hey!

I traveled several times with my passport, greencard+extension letter and it went very smooth. I am a March 2017 Filer :). When you are coming back from Italy the person in the Italy airport may not know what the extension letter is because he/she may have never seen it before (they are probably new workers).. but they usually ask their manager about it and everything goes as it should.

In other words, yes, you should be fine with the passport, greencard+extension letter!

I-485 (AOS)

04/01/2015 Sent Form I-485.

05/06/2015 Scheduled the interview and mailed its notice.

06/16/2015 The Post Office picked up mail containing the new card.

06/16/2015 The 2 years Green Card was mailed to me.

06/18/2015 The 2 years Green Card in hand.

I-751 (ROC)

03/13/2017 Sent I-751 documents to CSC.

03/14/2017 Package received.

03/16/2017 Check cashed.

03/??/2017  NOA received.

03/14/2017 NOA dated.

03/27/2017 Biometrics. "walked-in"

02/26/2018 Case transferred to my local office.

05/01/2018 Case transferred to another office.

05/03/2018 Case transferred to another office.

05/07/2018 Received letter in mail, my case was transferred to NBC. "Letter's date is 05/01/2018"

06/05/2018 Received letter in mail, they will do an interview at the same time, date and location of my N-400 interview. "06/21/2018"

06/21/2018 The combo interview (with N-400 interview). But it's still pending until they send me the result of this interview.

06/27/2018 The case was approved, with the N-400 approval.

06/30/2018 Received the approval letter in mail.

N-400 (Under 3 Years Rule)

04/02/2018 Applied for N-400 Online. (I-751 is still pending)

04/02/2018 Received NOA Online (Received in mail on 4/03/18).

04/27/2018 Biometrics.

05/14/2018 Scheduled the N-400 interview.

06/21/2018 Interview's date.

Passed the English test and the U.S. history and government test.

But: A decision cannot be made yet about my application. The reason is my pending I-751 file!

06/27/2018 The case was approved (with the I-751 approval), and placed me in line for oath ceremony.

07/09/2018 Oath Ceremony was scheduled.

07/20/2018 Oath Ceremony.

U.S. Citizen and proud!
