Yes, and no need to apologize.. Look in the top right corner of the paper you received, it should read "Form I-797C , Notice of Action"  (NOA1)

So he has the paper NOA1?

Edit for clarification:

He said he has the noa1 receipt number but waiting for the noa1. From what I understand that would mean they still didn't send the paper one. And in the status it tells you to call them if you don't have the hard copy.

am am I missing something or maybe the OP meant "waiting for noa2"

.

Old post re-edit to keep the info flow:

---

So that was your notice of action 1(NOA1) as @nykolos explained.

you were also suppose to get a hard copy (printed version mailed to your address). If you have this paper, that's the NOA1 hard copy to save. If you didn't receive the hard copy, contact USCIS. If you have it no problem.

right now the wait is a little long, and they are processing june/early July cases currently.

Ask whatever you need :) and don't worry you have loooots of people here to explain ;)

Oh, you should call uscis to get the hard copy. If you check your case status using the wac number they sent you with the email, it will say if you did not receive your hard copy by 45 dates (or a date written there) you should contact them.

May I ask if anyone knows whether the hard copy of NOA1 will be used or required later at any stage of getting K1 visa?

That's the only official paper you'll have till the end of uscis process. You never know what happens.. but regularly I don't think it's necessary, officially though you should have it.

noa2 on the other hand is more important you will need that for AOS.

but both of these paper can also be asked to send again I believe.

I’ll wait on replies but my 2 cents...if you plan on travelling to the US the hard copy of the NOA1 is the only proof you are in a visa application process and therefore (in my opinion) easier to enter on a visitor’s visa. Most lawyers will tell you not to try to visit unless you have your NOA1 letter in your possession.

The only way you can get a receipt number before receiving NOA1 is by calling and requesting the number... If he received a paper with the receipt #, it must be NOA1 and he probably doesn't realize it.

Not really.

you get the text / email first and your number is written on it. Which says if you don't get your noa1 hard copy in 45 days, contact us. In that case you would have the number but no noa1 yet, which seems like the situation.

I think what ppl are confused about is what the word NOA1 means. NOA1 is the ACTUAL hard copy form mailed to you called 797C Notice of Application to provide you with a receipt for your K1 visa application. On it states your Receipt Number which can be used to track the process of your application on the USCIS Online Tracker. Your receipt number is not your NOA1. The actual piece of paper with your receipt number on it IS.

IF you filled out form G1145 E-Notice of Application and attached it to your application, you would have received an email or text stating your Receipt Number. Your NOA1 is then mailed to you shortly afterwards and if you have not received it in the mail within 45 days from the email/text, you should call USCIS with the Receipt number they gave you in the email/text.

I guess what I am saying is we use the word NOA1 too loosely.

NOA1 is the actual paper receipt with your receipt number on it. The receipt number itself IS NOT the NOA1.

You could have received your Receipt Number via email/text (which IS basically all you need to do any tracking of your application) BUT still not have your NOA1.

I am still in the dark of the importance of the NOA1 document however like I’ve stated in many of my posts, I use it as evidence when travelling to the US to visit. It proves that we are applying for me to emigrate to the US legally therefore the Border Patrol Officer will feel confident that although I am in a relationship with a US citizen, I’m not planning to stay/ get married during my visit.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.. I myself received no digital communication, form I-797C arrived by mail within 2-3 weeks.

Hello everyone!

I'm back..
To tell the truth going to see the fiancé and my future home, and coming back made me a little bit sad and more depressed than I was before I went... complicated times this is!

The cats are happily settled.... way too happily to tell the truth!
They did not even check or look at the cats when we were entering through LAX (This changes depending on the state - California doesn't ask for anything from cats)
#Americancatfoodrocks

I can't believe so many people from June and even May friends are still waiting for NOA2...actually no, no ... I can't believe so many people are still waiting for NVC.

I won't be able to give a good weekly yet, as they are not updating properly.
Which I am guessing they are not comfortable with us telling them
"Dude you are so not doing June 1 cases"

So I updated all the months even under the current circumstances,
to give an idea of how much pending case we have left.
-------
Non-updated Noa2s
However, my personal thoughts after seeing how the cases flow and update/non-update works.
I believe June virgins are actually around 1300s, and some July cases will get their approval in the upcoming week without an update.

NVC Wait
Right now average looks like 45+ days, you can also find list we are putting together in my signature if you want to check how that wait is going at the moment. This wait is caused because USCIS is not sending Approved petitions, it is not a wait happening at the NVC level.
-------
I will be watching the situation through this week, to have better updates, and information on how things look.

Monthly situation is as follows;
June       July       Aug      Sept        Oct       Nov        Total
Approved 946 15 13 6   1 981
Virgin (Untouched) 1884 3263 3519 3176 3770 3304 18916
Touched (RFEs,Updates) 853 135 139 129 128 67 1451
Excluded 358 383 404 287 244 205 1881
Total 4041 3796 4075 3598 4142 3577 23229

For months after August,
I would say watch for when they update the website information to July 1.
Because the "as of" they'll give will show us if they will try and speed up their approvals.
We already know October 31 update is not really truth, however they did by then touched all May cases. so the real update for the next one normally should be July 1 as of December 31 (which is not exactly correct either), However I expect if they actually speed up the process they may give us a July 1 as of November 30 update!

*For anyone who didn't do it yet, please get informed delivery if it's available in your area.

Google drive for Monthly data:
*For December cases I am gathering the info right now and will be up in a few days in this same folder

PS_I don't put this post in June, or May. Because they have a lot to deal with right now already. And there was no information that can help them at the moment. When upset and angry let's all remember that we are all in the same boat here. Good luck to all of us.

So what if the letter self is lost? Can we ask for another copy from USCIS?
