Annoying travel agents

I'm searching for flights to Phoenix for 17th May and it seems that 1 way is cheaper. The travel agents keep annoying me by trying to scare me into buying a return. They keep saying that sometimes, unless you have a greencard, even with a visa you get rejected if you travel to the states on a 1 way!! I tell them the visa I have is not like that and they argue! How annoying are they - just wanna increase their commission by selling me a more expensive flight!!!

1-23-07 NOA1 Notice Date

1-26-07 NOA1 arrives in the post

4-25-07 Touched!

5-3-07 NOA2!!! Two approval emails received at 11:36am

5-10-07 Arrived at NVC/5-14-07 Left NVC - London-bound!

5-17-07??? London receives?

5-20-07 Packet 3 mailed

5-26-07 Packet 3 received

5-29-07 Packet 3 returned, few days later than planned due to bank holiday weekend

6-06-07 Medical in London (called to schedule on May 29)

6-11-07 "Medical in file" at Embassy

6-14-07 Resent packet 3 to Embassy after hearing nothing about first try

6-22-07 DOS says "applicant now eligible for interview," ie: they enter p3 into their system

6-25-07 DOS says interview date is August 21

6-28-07 Help from our congressional representative gives us new interview date: July 6

7-06-07 Interview at 9:00 am at the London Embassy - Approved.

7-16-07 Visa delivered after 'security checks' completed

I-129F approved in 111 days; Interview 174 days from filing

Technically they are correct, but I have to agree with you the chances of you getting turned around are so slim that it would not justify the purchase of a round trip ticket. Stick to your guns and tell them its one way only and if they dont like it you can go to another travel agent.

Some airlines have refused to board the non-USC traving for the first time unless the ticket was changed to a round trip. Play it safe and talk to the airline. The airline policy is normally that you have to have correct immigrant papers to travel on a one way. Your fiance does and will need to be prepared if someone should try to tell him he can not board the flight. My fiance used a one way ticket and had no problems.

I'd skip the travel agent if you could. Talking to the airline directly (as suggested above) sounds like the way to go.

I've flown from London to Phoenix and back loads of times, and I've always ended up with BA. They have a direct flight that is often cheaper than flights with stopovers. 17 May flights currently have a price of about £230 each way, with taxes and fees included.

I've never managed to find a one way flight that was cheaper than a round trip when I've wanted one.

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png
