Proving a bonfide relationship when you met someone only 7 days is harder. Would you marry someone in the US you had known in person for only 7 days? The consulate looks at the total relationship either way.

Hello Everyone!

I am new to this forum and I have a few general questions if anyone can help!

1) my fiancé and I have only met once for a few days in the past week, I went to Nigeria to see him, is that not enough to be approved by the consulate?

2) Do I NEED a lawyer to help me file my petition for k-1 visa ?

3) can I go to his interview once the date is established?

we took several photos and I have receipts of the hotel, my itinerary, things I bought, and my passport was stamped upon arrival and departure.

we've been dating since May of this year and I haven't been to see him more than once because I've recently graduated and started a new job so it was impossible to ask for more time off, not to mention it's quite expensive. Is one meeting enough ? Are the fiancé visas as temperamental as I've read on this site because technically all that is required is one meeting.

Ive been on the fence about getting a lawyer because it's expensive and I've also read that I don't necessarily need one,, I've researched and learned a few things on my own so far.

thank you in advance!

Hi Dear!

I'm a Nigerian. I have researched on K-1 visa on different sites and read people's testimonies from Lagos US Consulate. I have read three sets of people that were approved that had only one visit (one person met his Fiancé in Ghana and didn't visit Nigeria but was approved). The one visit covers the meeting in person within 2 year interval for USCIS, but endeavour visiting for the interview to have recent pictures and be present during the interview (it has an advantage). Also, remember to have pictures with his family (creates acceptance from the family). We are using a Lawyer because my Fiancé has no time for research due to the nature of his job, and the Lawyer didn't include our chat history and call logs because it might take a longer time (to review all materials submitted) for approval at USCIS stage with front-loaded materials (I'm compiling all that for the interview). You can decide not to use a lawyer if you can have a thorough research and be meticulous in filling out all forms (including necessary requirements). You can take the form piece by piece and can come on Visajourney to ask questions if you encounter any difficulty while filing. Also, the cost for the Legal input is another factor to consider. USCIS stage is a work-over, while the interview is the major stage to prepare for.

Although, we have heard USEM Lagos is a tough place to be, I have also read lots of people getting their visa effortlessly and I seen people get denied after the heavy materials (front-loading). We just need to be prepared, calm and prayerful (God makes the road easy).

Goodluck.

That's not "older" so that's a +

Marriage denial is appealable.  Denied K1 is not.  You do have an uphill battle though.  Just the way it is.

You are right to an extent but guess what? Fiance(s)visas are discretional, the CO is totally in charge. I have gone through the process before&that's why I'm on the CR- 1 route now. Immigration cases are like fingerprints(All cases are completely different). On the day of my k1 intervie(March 14th 2017)all 7 k1 applicants were denied. The CO's reason for my own visa denial was that she wasn't convinced that our relationship was bona fide after interviewing me for over 45mins. Over preparation&God is the key.

Moreso, nobody from US embassy in Lagos can get an approved K1 visa with a one week visit to his/her fiance or fiancee in Nigeria.

Over preparations,front- loaded petition&above all,God is the key to Lagos embassy for K1 visas.

Happy Sunday..!

I agree with @Abies..I would get another visit in before filing..Met my husband for the first time March 2016 (1 week), 2nd time October 2016 (2 weeks and 2 days and we got married), third time this past August while our petition is now in process for 1 week and 2 days and planning a 4th trip for his interview....However, we chose the Cr-1 route for a number of reasons and they are because it was cheaper, my husband wanted his family see us get married, my husband didn't want to sit around for 3 months not able to do nothing just to name a few..So getting enough face time in for the Lagos Embassy is very much crucial..Be sure to take pics with family and close friends and you already know to keep all receipts, plane itineraries, etc...The good thing is you are going back for his interview which is a major plus..You won't be allowed in, but be sure to give him your passport to take inside the embassy so that way he can show the CO you are outside waiting..Again, face time is very important to the this embassy and quality of eveidence...Remember, quality over quantity is the best...Good luck on your journey!!

There are other reviews more interesting than this that happened this year, 2017. Every case is different. Prepare for your interview and pray fervently to God. Prayers can move mountains.

STAY BLESSED!
