One thing you have going for you is that it is very likely the Immigration Officer who handles your interview has a job performance metric related to closing applications, either rejection or approval. If your case is an obvious approval then he/she is going to be very motivated to approve the case ASAP. If, for any reason, the i751 application wasn't available and he/she wasn't able to complete the i751 review during the interview, they will be highly motivated to obtain the application and complete the review in a very fast manner. And the IO might get credit for closing both the i751 and n400 so they might be doubly motivated to complete the review of both cases since they're linked.

Good to know. I believe my i751 case is very strong but who knows, we have all the joined paper work ( house, car, insurance, bank, etc)

What I read is some IO has no rights to review the i751, they are doing N400 interview only...

This is good to know! Thanks so much.

For all of you here who have had a joint interview, was your i-751 updated beforehand to say transferred to a new office that has jurisdiction? I have my N400 interview in 10 days and have been on the phone to USCIS multiple times to see if they can arrange for my i-751 to be transferred to my local office in San Bernardino for joint processing. They put in a request for this to be done at the start of the month and the inquiry is still pending at the moment, each time I call they tell me something different, but they tell me the i-751 is still at CSC and not my local office. I am trying to figure out if I should be prepared for a joint interview or just N400. Any of your experiences would be helpful! Thanks so much.

My wife received the update in question, about a month before she was scheduled for her N-400 interview.  She ended up having a combo interview.  Her interview was at the San Bernardino office.

How have you been aware that is a combo ? On my notice it says citizenship interview but I have i751 pending too ...

its a common sense now. N400 wont get approve until I751 get approved first. there are several possibility here

1) go there for the N400 interview, send you home because I751 is pending, cant conduct the interview( IO has rights to do but rarely happen since everything is delay now)

2) go there for the N400 interview, IO has i751 file with him/her, ask your spouse to do the interview then move on to N400,  cant approve on the site but will verbally let you know the decision. go home and wait ( normally 2 weeks)

3) nice officer will conduct N400 first, leave it pending decision since I751 is pending. can review your I751 later ( maybe approve, maybe need an interview for that, but this will end up in endless waiting)

So its up to you to decide to bring your spouse or not. If its true marriage, ask a day off for the interview isnt that much honestly!!

Well my husband asked for his day off the same day I got my interview notice so it’s not the problem . My question was if you got an notice telling you if it was gonna be adjucated at the same time or anything ?!!

common sense as nothing to do here since I’m not a lawyer and it’s my first time dealing with that and I don’t know anybody who had been dealing with neither . Maybe you know some people or you have read a lot of messages online so you know what’s going on but it’s not my case here it’s the reason why I’m asking ...

Bring your spouse, original documents and all updated paperwork since filing I-751 & N-400.  As long as you can answer all the

citizenship questions correctly, you should be good to go.  Good luck.

Be prepared to talk about your marriage during the i751 portion of the interview. How you met, what you've done together since you arrived, etc.

My notice for the N-400 interview didn't mention anything about my pending I-751 either but I went with my spouse anyway.  First thing the IO asked me when he called my name was whether my spouse was with me because since I had a pending I-751, he had to be there.

As to the I751 portion of the interview where I was present with my wife, we did submit updated tax information (transcripts) as we had filed two years of taxes between with the I751 was filed and the combo interview.  Beyond that, the I751 interview maybe took five minutes, the IO had the package in front of her and essentially verified all the biographical information we put on the form.  Then I was told to leave and my wife continued with her N400 interview which took about 15 minutes or so.

Good Luck!

We also did not receive any notice of an I751 interview, but based on what I read here on VJ, I anticipated the potential, so I made sure I was there with my wife and sure enough I was asked to come back when the IO came to get my wife for her N400 interview.  It is understood that with filing the N400, the I751 essentially becomes meaningless, but it still needs to be closed out before the N400 can be finalized therefore the files are combined and sent to the local offices.  I think about six to nine months ago these combo files started hitting the local offices in mass and there was a bit of confusion there (I751s didn't always take 1.5-2 years to process in the past).  I think the confusion has somewhat lessened as the local IOs are seeing this more and more.
